EARTH CITY, Mo. -- In a span of five days starting Sunday, the St. Louis Rams will play two games, and though they aren't looking beyond the one they have Sunday in Dallas, they are taking steps to ensure they make it to the second of those games as healthy as possible.

That's why Wednesday's injury report is by far the longest of the young season, with 10 players listed, nine of whom did not participate in practice.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher acknowledged that he has to manage any little bumps and bruises his players have now so that the Rams will be able to get to and through the next two games.

"We talked about it," Fisher said. "I talked about it with the team late Monday, about what our plans are and how we have to not look past the Cowboys, but understand what the challenges are with the short week next week."

The Rams travel to Dallas to play the Cowboys on Sunday, but after traveling back to St. Louis are scheduled to host San Francisco in the Thursday night game on Sept. 26.

So whenever Fisher sees an opportunity to buy time for one of his players who might be nursing an injury, even a minor one, he's probably going to err on the side of caution in the next seven or eight days.

The nine players who did not practice Wednesday are tackle Rodger Saffold (knee), ends William Hayes (hip), Eugene Sims (foot) and Chris Long (hip), cornerback Cortland Finnegan (nose), tight end Mike McNeill (chest), guard Chris Williams (foot), cornerback Quinton Pointer (thigh) and running back Daryl Richardson (foot).

From that group, Fisher said Saffold is day-to-day, but indications are that he won't be ready to go this week. Long, Pointer and Richardson appeared on the injury report last week, but of the trio, only Pointer did not play. Fisher said he expects Richardson to be ready to go for Thursday's practice even though he was in a walking boot Wednesday.

"There were a number of players that didn’t practice I think probably could have, and there were several that may not have been able to and we’ll just see how they are tomorrow," Fisher said.

Safety Darian Stewart did return to practice after missing more than a month with a thigh injury. He was listed as a limited participant.

Meanwhile, Dallas' injury report wasn't as lengthy but does feature some important names. Here's the breakdown:

Did not participate: WR Dez Bryant (back), LB Ernie Sims (groin), DE Anthony Spencer (knee)
Limited participation: CB Morris Claiborne (shoulder), DE DeMarcus Ware (neck)
Full participation: QB Tony Romo (ribs)

Finnegan did not practice because of his NOSE?

So that's what's wrong with him. He can't sniff out where the QB is going with the ball!

I will send him my FloNase and fix that up pronto!

After last week I ain't trustin no damn injury reports

But ya know there WAS this thread on another board that AXED "can Fisher do anything to improve the injury situation?" I guess the correct answer would be,"it don't hurt to try".
