I think with the offseason additions, the offense should pretty squarely be a top five unit next season. They were when Kyren was healthy last season and Corum gives them the insurance policy they need to keep that happening.

The O's best-case scenario is pretty damn good, imo.

Does anybody have pass protection tape on Corum? Kyren was special in that regard coming out of Notre Dame, especially for his size.
I don't have any tape but I can tell you what PFF ratings say about pass pro and run blocking for both players.

Kyren (avg. over 3 years)

Pass blocking: 51
Run blocking: 66

Corum (avg. over 4 years)

Pass blocking: 57
Run blocking: 57

Coming out of college, Corum is the superior pass blocker while Kyren was the superior run blocker. There's generally way fewer run blocking opportunities for a RB which makes pass pro the most important metric.

I appreciate that but PFF metrics without context don't mean much to me in this regard tbh

This is the perfect guy. Only concern I have is how much tread he has left on his tires. He's a tough SOB, but over 700 plays is a lot.

I think it has always been about Pass pro keeping them off the field. So you could be right if he struggles there.

From watching every game of his I can tell you he’s definitely developed into a pretty reliable Pass Pro and blitz pick up back.

However, as Marshall, says that’s always a knock for every back coming into the NFL in general.

I like this guy because he seems to have a nose for the end zone or short yardage plays. I hated seeing Stafford doing a sneak for a 1/2 yard and often times, not making it, especially against the whiners. With Kyren and Corum, I'd like to see a 90+ % conversion rate on 3rd or 4th and 1.

When you factor in the new middle of the Rams OL make that more like 100%.

Reasons for Blake Corum:

1. Anybody remember last year in Detroit? Let me refresh your memory: Red Zone Eff. 0-3, Goal to go Eff. 0-1. Lions Red Zone Eff 3-3 To go Eff. 2-2.
Just a reminder we lost by 1 point.
Corum is exceptional within the 10 yard line and more specifically within the 5 yard line that McVay famous ( or infamously around here doesn't like to run around the goal line)

2. Between Royce Freeman, Zach Evans, Ronnie Rivers, and Cam Akers they had a total of 164 Rushes last year. while Williams had 228. Probably going to be pretty easy to fill up Corums' plate without having to take much away from Williams.

3. Receiving out the backfield: Williams
Rec Yards Avg TD Rec Yards Avg TD
2022 11 80 7.3 1 9 76 8.4 0
2023 16 117 7.3 1 32 206 6.4 3

Don't really here anybody complaining about Kyren Williams ability to receive from the back field however their stats are pretty damned similar.

TO be honest Corum obviously didn't catch much out the back field just by glancing at his numbers however I don't anticipate any issues, it is however a lingering question I have for him to watch this coming year.

3. Corum and Williams are basically going to compliment each other with fresh legs constantly and prevent the mileage getting to high for either one of them. Kind of like when you rotate your tires so they wear evenly. I expect big things from both of them this year and basically injury protection from each other so we don't have another Packers game BS like we did last year.

4. The underestimated part of Corums game that isn't mentioned is his ability to get more out of others around him, in other words a force amplifier. He's an amazing teammate and will add to the building in many ways outside of just on the field. He worked side by side with probably a top 3 Rounds prospect in Michigan who decided to go back to college to run the show as the lead this year.

5. Corum also adds protection against Williams contract which expires in 2026 to getting leverage to resign at a team friendly deal if this is desired by both sides. Think our FO learned with the Gurley debacle.

I wouldn't be surprised if Corum is the one with the majority of carries by week 3. Both will see significant touches, probably over 200 for each, which would be ideal. That would truly mean we have 2, 1a RBs. Last year I predicted 10 wins, first time I was ever right I think, possibility of 12 or 13 win season is my expectation. Both RBs over 900 yards and a combined 20 rush TDs.

Corrum is one of those running backs that if the Rams didn't draft we would be upset and wonder why they didn't in a couple of years.

A great fit for the Rams with Williams and a stud O Line.

He and K-Will will be solid together, and Scott should help with kickoffs and a third running back. I’m still hesitant with the amount of touches Corum will receive (700+ is a lot of touches in one college year, so I want him to be healthy enough for us.), but a healthy 60/35/5 (K-Will/Corum/third string) for our running backs could be the key to our season.

It may be they drafted Corum to take touches away from Kyren. Keep him healthy while not missing a beat in the run game. Boston Scott is a good #3 with additional value. My guess is #4 will be between Rivers and Evans, because they'll keep 4 on the roster.
