Rams report: Brockers returns to practice, others getting closer
• By Joe Lyons

The Rams worked through one of the hottest days of training camp on Tuesday.

Undrafted rookie free agent Jarrid Bryant, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound cornerback, was the standout in Tuesday's workout. In a span of six or seven plays, he came up with a pair of interceptions and a pass breakup.

Tuesday's practice marked the return of several key players. Defensive tackle Michael Brockers practiced and took normal reps with the starters. Right guard Rodger Saffold did individual work while middle linebacker James Laurinaitis did some running on the side and defensive end William Hayes worked on the side with trainers.

Players not practicing included linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar, offensive linemen Mike Person, Demetrius Rhaney and Barrett Jones, defensive end Sammy Brown, defensive tackle Matt Conrath and cornerbacks E.J. Gaines, Darren Woodard and Brandon McGee.

RAM-BLINGS

The Rams will hold their final open-to-the-public practice today beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Rams Park in Earth City.

• Receiver Tavon Austin wore No. 1 instead of his normal No. 11 on Tuesday. “Just a practice jersey,'' he explained.

• Rams legend Isiah Robertson, a six-time Pro Bowl linebacker, took in Tuesday's practice.

“What an honor to have him in the building and out to practice,'' Rams coach Jeff Fisher said. “Really, really great career. You talk about his numbers and stats and everything. Remember watching him, (he) just played the game the way (you're supposed to) play at the linebacker position.''

• A scout for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League was on hand Tuesday. Last week, the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats scouted the Rams.

Langford has been underrated all off season. When Brockers plays next to him The Rams really shut down the run well.Brockers is a beast.Quinn just has been trying to beat the LT to the edge all preseason. He has his jersey real tight & cut off,or tucked sleeves.Eugene Simms actually looks better than Robert Q right now.
-Donald has not looked good at all.He looks totally undersized & GB had most of there success against his side of the ball.Watching Westbrooke this preseason makes me think The Rams would have been better of drafting Shazier or Mosley.Ray Ray looks lost & Ogletree can only do so much.JL55 being hurt shows big time . Brockers coming back will show how good Langford & he are.

I would rather have drafted Mosley or Martin because Dline was a luxury when there was still big need. Trade back a little and take them where you value them. Donald's size was his one main knock. I hope the coaches are right on him.

I wish they would say who Jarred Bryant played so well against. Most likely the 3s.

I wanted a LB so bad it was probably annoying, but next year.

I'm sure Donaldson will be improve against the run over time, but work out well against the pass this year.

It’s great to hear that these key contributors are close to being back and getting ready for Minnesota.

Isiah Robertson, oh yeah, one of my favorites growing up!

Interesting, could this be a possible landing spot for Michael Sam if he doesn’t make the final cut or will he be part of the 10 man practice squad?

I wonder what's up with Brockers and these ankle injuries.

Unless Martin were playing center (for the first time) or they were going to cut someone, wouldn't Martin be even more of a luxury after drafting Robinson and re-signing Saffold?

Long, Robinson, Wells, Saffold, Barksdale

Donald has had some good moments. Penetrated the backfield in game 1, drew a holding flag game 2 when he beat his man.
He has had a hard time getting off blocks but so has everyone on the front seven. Sometimes he has maintained his position pretty well sometimes he has been moved off the LOS. I don't think the Rams are asking him to come in and be a rock vs the run right away anyway.....he will be used in rotation with several other guys.
Brockers dropping below 300lbs is more of a concern to me. We will see how he holds up vs the run.

I thought Martin was able to play all over the line. Besides the injury issues on the Oline are much more tenuous. Saffold, Wells, and Long are all bigger injury risks than any of the starting Dline.

I hope so. The thought of Ray Ray starting due to injury is not one I relish. Worse is the thought that Armstrong is the best backup LB on the roster is even worse. I was hoping Steward and or Bates would have made more progress and showed us some marked improvement.

-Have not seen Brockers, but for as big(tall) as he is that is a little light.Didn't really know much about what his injury has been.
I can't wait to see him.What side does Donald(position)come in at ??
--This Westbrook kid has lined up at LDE,but has also wreaked havoc at DT as well.He has played fantastic.
Westbrook & E. Simms came in in the Red Zone on Aaron Rogers 2 drive. He & Simms played great.Simms got the holding call drawn which stopped the TD pass & then made them settle for a field goal.
In my view the Donald hype to this point was way overrated coming from OTA's through camp.It preseason though.
I think he is more of a specialist at this point.I heard the interview with he and D'Farr. He was lifting 405#'s in HS.Has a great work ethic ,but has he maxed out.Right when preseason games started the rumor was camp legs got to him.
--JJ has not been in,& Tru is just getting healthy.Mcgee is giving huge cosh ins.Vanilla play calling doesn't make things easier.

My take is that Aaron Donald is so fast the Rams could send him darting into the backfield every play while others maintain more run gap integrity...at least on early downs.

OK, on Brockers, if he has an ankle injury that could get worse...hold up on him. If his ankle is OK and G. Robinson is physically beating him in drills, it's not an indictment on Brockers, it's a testament to G. Rob, and exactly what I thought he'd be able to do in the NFL. He has SPECIAL strength, and an unbelievable upside. Brockers would probably still be able to beat him in a real game situation, right now, but in the future, who is going to beat G. Rob? Not many, IMO.

--Donald got that holding call in 4qrt,,next play after that M.Sam gets the sack which almost puts Packers out of field goal distance.Made a 50yd.
I know it's from a different post, but what did Jared Cook do bad in the game ? I really like that kid Bayer & Cunningham looks good as a HB.
Cook made a real nice play on the 4th dwn catch. I see your point about the contract.
I really like the way Sam Bradford is playing, but Cook is wide open on plays. He isn't the greatest receiver ,but he has good hands.

Just my opinion, Cook is not a complete TE. Not such a big deal as they have more traditional TEs on the roster. The Rams line him up at WR also of course.
To me he still looks like an athlete masquerading as a football player.
As always, I hope he busts out and proves me a fool.

Would it be out of line to suggest that Robinson is a potential "Pace" in waiting?

That is what we are all hoping for, but athletically, and strength wise, he has the potential.

Rams defensive tackle Michael Brockers talks about his return to the practice field, his status for Saturday’s game in Cleveland and how it feels to have the McCleur North football team in camp.
