Question. Do you guys value that 3 or 4th rounder we got taken away due to signing Robinson a one year contract more valuable than having Robinson more than likely only this year? Or would you rather have Robinson this year and not worry about it and put off compensation for him the following year if we dont resign?

Me personally, if you are going for a position that really takes a couple years to develop, I would rather take the known commodity over a draft pick, especially lower rounds when they generally do not have the athleticism to overcome their lack of knowledge. So in this case I would take Robinson.

Yes

:D

But yeah I like the signing of Robinson it gives Gaines another year of rotation and he should be a force on the front 3 to help out our ILB crew as they adjust to Staley's defense.

Wait that’s an either or question! lol

So you’d rathe of signed Robinson and get the 3-4 pick in 2 years?

Yes I'm happy we signed him and I'm fine with postponing a potential comp pick a year. I think he will benefit some of the young guys we're going to be trotting out in our LB corp this year. It would have been nice to have the comp pick next year but I think the delay is worth it.

@Corbin

How about another bet: Robinson gets six+ sacks or more. I bet he hits that. You willing to throw down again? :p ;)

Nice post. I was kinda wanting an extra one right away but I think reading yours why not delay it and get help for the time being. This is how the Pats and other teams always have a stream of cómo picks coming in and love how our front office constantly does this now.

Stick with signing him. He's a proven commodity, great run defender and will be able to play multiple spots along the line. A draft pick is nice, but it's no guarantee that the pick turns into anything positive. Isn't Robinson's contract for 2 years?

It is for two years. It's a great contract, and I'd take Robinson over the draft pick; don't forget that he's only twenty-four.

Hard to say whether I would take Robinson or a draft pick until he plays a season. He went from 3 down player to part time player in Detroit.

Gaines has no range. He just blast forward.Maybe he improves, but as far as last season he can only keep his feet for so long.I see him as only a roll player.

I’ll say this for now. A. Robinson will be worth more than the price The Rams paid to sign him.

I guess I’m not understanding the question right. First off Brockers signed with the Ravens,so it was at least a wash when The Rams signed a Robinson?
If the question is about having Robinson signed for 2 years instead of a comp pick next season then that is a lot different of a question. Who the heck can project anything on a player for certain? Any player could have a career injury at any point.
Brockers signed a bigger contract than Robinson & I believe A. Robinson is more of an ascending player that will bring back a high comp pick after 2years. In fact maybe he becomes a franchise type player. I’ll shoot for the moon with him. I think he will bring more The Rams than SUH did for a season. Having him for the 2nd year will only be that much better.
BTW - a 2nd rd pick 46 overall. To trade up for that pick would cost a 3rd & 4th pick at least.

—I guess I don’t understand the contract as a one year deal ?? If he plays like crap he DC

That's a tough one. In a vacuum, I think the salary control and trade value make the pick more valuable, especially if it's a 3rd. At the same time, there are holes on the defense that need to be filled for 2020. I'd say it's worth losing the future compensation to have an improved defense.

Most know I love CDPA's. Snead has done an outstanding job in this element of his job description.

I will ensure I make a special note in Les Snead's 2020 Job Performance Appraisal when I sit down with him @ my desk & let him know what I expect in the future in this area & his 2021 PIP (Performance Improvement Plan).

IMO the Robinson signing is huge for our new DC Brandon Staley. Having three veteran DL'ers starting (one is the MVP of the NFL) should bring havoc & concerns to all our opponents OC's. The NT post was normally a weak spot last season. Snead/McVay fixed this issue.

Rams could come up with the same or even better projection for the 2022 draft with the below listed pending UFA's:
Cooper Kupp with a market value of $19.4 million.
Jalen Ramsey with a market value of $14.3 million.
Leonard Floyd with a market value of $13.9 million.

Other starters worth strong mentions:
3 yr starting safety John Johnson III.
2 yr starting OLB Samson Ebukam.
3 yr starting IOL Austin Blythe.
Starting CB Troy Hill, Josh Reynolds & talented TE Gerald Everett.
