I have to go waaaay back, and you may not believe this, But "Jack Youngblood"!
Way back when the Rams let Deacon Jones go, I thought " Who the "F" is this " Young Punk" who thinks he is going to Take the Place of Deacon Jones!! Boy was I wrong!
I admit, being a friend of Deacon's clouded my opinion! And I was "Butt-Hurt when the Rams let him go!

Ok! So Jack turned out to be the 2nd Best DE the Rams EVER had!!

I was going Yes Yes Yes when they picked Aaron Donald - didn't think he would become possibly the best DT of all time but had high hopes for him

I hate drafting offensive linemen in the first round! but I honestly felt Greg Robinson was going to be good and prove me wrong .

I thought tavon was going to be awesome! He is not , not sure how someone with that burst cannot learn how to run routes.

Orlando Pace -- Who drafts a freakin' O-lineman first overall?!?! Back in the day, LT's simply weren't typical #1 pick material. He turned out ok and, arguably, paved the way for the franchise O-lineman.

Steve Israel -- Back in the day, I thought 40 times were more important and Israel was supposed to be the fastest player of that draft class (or something).

I was so excited over Tavon, loser. Lawrence Phillips, loser. Bradford, loser. On the other side I felt Steven Jackson was a bad pick, not that he was a hall of famer but bested my expectations.

Pat Terrell. I thought he was going to be a stud, but it never quite worked out that way.
Barrett Jones. Like another guy already mentioned, he never materialized.
Isaac Bruce. I remember thinking Who? Boy did he exceed my expectations.

too often had twinkle toes,

You got a problem with "twinkletoes?

Cleveland Gary - loved the guy out of Miami, not as good as I had hopes

Another guy beat me to it. He had two pretty good years. Short lived, though.

Aaron Cox of the 1st round of the 1988 draft

Cox wasn't bad. He was just the #3. A lot like Hakim.

Reading through this thread, it appears that some of you don't understand the discussion.
It's...Who were you WRONG about.

I was WRONG about G. Robinson. I thought he was the perfect fit. Physically gifted run blocking monster in a Jeff Fisher offense. Oops.

I thought Greg Robinson was going to be a Mauler 100% wrong.

I complained endlessly on rhe old Stl board after we got Jason Smith and Brian Quick. I hated both those picks to death. Smith was a TE convert never played a down with his hand in the ground at Baylor. Quick had average stats imo at Appalachian State. Only a couple good games against terrible talent and we could have had him I believed at the time in the 4th round. Two super turds and I knew it.

Not a big fan of the Reynolds pick last year we shall see.

I have another one. Tye Hill. I thought that dude was going to be a stud corner. Especially after the first game vs Denver when he jumped the slant route.

Then he got absolutely torched by Steve Smith the next year. And it just went down the drain after that.

I really thought we got a steal when we took Eric Crouch. Sure... we weren't going to play him at his "Heisman" QB position... but he was the fastest white dude on the planet.

How was I supposed to know that he had no heart and didn't love the game?

Aaron Donald. I thought he was drafted too high. Figured he would go in the second half of round 1. Thought he would be decent but not great due to size.

I had no idea he would be great.

One of my all time favorite Rams and I watched every game Orlando Pace played at The Ohio State University and his nickname was Pancake, which underscored how helpless defensive players were against him.

Joel Buchsbaum of Pro Football Weekly, started publishing draft books before anyone really knew what they were, always put the player's strength and weakness and I will never forget his weakness on Orlando Pace.

It read....Weakness: Pace has never been beaten pass blocking or run blocking, so nobody knows how he's going to react at the next level, once somebody actually beats him....In other words, Pace had no weakness and Buchsbaum had to invent one....Outstanding and thank you Dick Vermeil and the New York Jets for allowing the St. Louis Rams to trade up.
