Hopefully they both sign long term deals before they have to play on those options.

Absolutely necessary. An accurate passer like goff may be able to hit Tavon on some routes that Bradford and foles could not.

Good to see progress on locking these guys up, hopefully it gets done quickly so we don't have another JJ situation to go through.

They saw how much it cost to sign Barron after declining his 5th year option, and decided they were better off locking these two up. That gives the Rams another year to negotiate a longer contract, and since there is more risk of an injury to Austin or Ogletree in that time, it gives them more reason to sign now rather than wait for free agency.

Also would allow us to franchise TJ McDonald if needed after this year...not sure he's that good, but he could have a break out season like TruJo did.

I'm not hopeful that any deal will get done with either of these guys. It's just far to tempting for players to test the market because of the new CBA.

It has really made things harder for teams and now that every year guys playing on rookie deals will be testing the waters it's going to be a mess for the GM's and cap specialists.

It'll stabilize. The cap won't shoot up this much every year, and teams will have less cap space to splurge once they've signed a few players at the higher levels. Then a few of the players who struck it big will end up cut for cap reasons, while a few of those who didn't take a long term contract when they could will get hurt and miss out on the big contract, and more will realize that it makes sense sometimes to take the guaranteed money a year before free agency.

They already have contracts for 2016. Under the CBA, 1st rounders can be tendered contracts for a fifth season that they in effect have to accept - except they are much larger than what they have been paid. But by doing so teams guarantee that they are kept.

Last season Barron's tender wasn't offered since it was high - but he ended up being worth more than the tender. So the Rams are being more careful about it, especially since Ogletree was very good before the injury, and Tavon has turned into a huge weapon.
