Morning Ram-blings: For Rams, quarterback now a bargain
By Nick Wagoner

http://espn.go.com/blog/st-louis-ra...ram-blings-for-rams-quarterback-now-a-bargain

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- Before the expansive offseason makeover the St. Louis Rams did to their quarterback depth chart, one could make a strong argument that it was one of the most overpaid groups in the league relative to the production it provided.

But with former starter Sam Bradford traded to Philadelphia and veteran Shaun Hill signing with the Minnesota Vikings and Nick Foles and Case Keenum in their place, the Rams now have one of the cheapest groups of signal-callers in the NFL.

On Thursday, ESPN NFL Nation columnist Kevin Seifert took a look at some teams who could match Seattle's efficiency in spending at the position. While Seifert points to Oakland, Minnesota and Miami as teams that could realize that type of value, it's worth noting where the Rams rank on the list of teams' commitment to the salary cap.

Seattle currently has the fewest cap dollars committed to quarterbacks at 2.2 percent and Tennessee is next at 3.6 percent. The Rams are next, coming in third at 3.7 percent. (Note: rookie Sean Mannion hasn't signed yet but is factored into the numbers above based on his salary slot.)

For the Rams, it makes sense to invest less at a position that doesn't have as much value in their offense as it might in others. While they still need Foles to perform well to make a postseason run, they don't need him to carry the bulk of the load in what figures to be a run-heavy approach.

The question now is whether the Rams spent those dollars in the right way in other spots.
