Morning Ram-blings: Raves for Clowney
By Nick Wagoner

http://espn.go.com/blog/st-louis-rams/post/_/id/7272/morning-ram-blings-raves-for-clowney

If there were any lingering doubts that South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is the best player in this year's NFL draft class, he did what he could in shorts and a T-shirt to put those to rest at his pro day Wednesday.

As one would expect from a simple workout from a player who never had any questions about his athletic ability, Clowney's performance drew nothing but rave reviews.

ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay was already on board with Clowney as the best player in this year's class and Wednesday's workout did nothing but re-affirm Insider that, as he writes in his Insider piece.

Panthers reporter David Newton was also in attendance for Clowney's big day and also left as impressed as anyone else who watched the workout.

That Clowney put on a show for the scouts and media in attendance is no surprise. The questions surrounding his work ethic remain, though they may be covered up a bit by his jaw-dropping raw talent for the time being.

But if indeed Clowney has firmly established himself as the top player in the draft and the Houston Texans decide to take him with the No. 1 overall pick, it will simultaneously complicate and ease the Rams' process at No. 2.

As it stands, Clowney is likely to be better trade bait than any of the quarterbacks in the class though one could argue that a team could then trade up to No. 2 to have first crack at its choice of signal-callers.

It would also take away the temptation for the Rams themselves to select Clowney, who would be a great fit schematically and a strong addition but at the team's most loaded position.

Either way, it doesn't appear anything will be decided on that front until May. In the meantime, the Rams have plans for a private workout with Clowney at a later date and he's on the team's list of "top 30" prospects scheduled to visit St. Louis.
