By Nick Wagoner

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- A year ago at this time, then-Missouri defensive end Michael Sam was one of the biggest stories in the country, not just in the NFL but the country at large. Contingents from all facets of the media checked in to report the story of the first openly gay man attempting to enter the league.

Little more than a year later, Sam has had stops in St. Louis with the Rams and on the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad but is not on a roster. In an essay with TheMMQB.com last week, Sam revealed that he has no intention of giving up his dream to play in the NFL.

Sam writes that he has continued working out and has designs on attending the first-ever NFL veteran combine next month in Arizona. He also discusses his time in St. Louis and how everything played out in its aftermath.

Worth a read for those who were rooting for Sam to be a Ram.
