Morning Ram-blings: Stadium plans and fans
By Nick Wagoner

http://espn.go.com/blog/st-louis-rams/post/_/id/14310/morning-ram-blings-stadium-plans-and-fans

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- In the latest edition of ESPN the Magazine, Senior Writer Mina Kimes offered an interesting look at the big business of sports and stadiums and how quiet, backroom deals are now being done to cut out the middle man.

And in this case, the middle man is taxpayers. In the piece, Kimes discusses the secretive efforts of local politicians in Washington DC and Atlanta to get new stadiums built without the approval of taxpayers.

Of course, neither of those in the works stadiums has anything to do with the St. Louis Rams but it's obviously a worthwhile read in any city, especially here where there is an obvious need and discussion of building a new venue.

Much of what has taken place in regards to the St. Louis football stadium plans has gone on behind closed doors. That's nothing new as the sides naturally prefer to keep those negotiations in private rather than out in the public. However, there have been at least a few efforts from the state to make clear what is going on.

That's why Missouri Governor Jay Nixon announced that he'd appointed former Anheuser Busch President Dave Peacock and local attorney Bob Blitz to put plans together to bring St. Louis a viable plan for a new stadium. What was unsaid there is that Peacock has actually been working on the project much longer.

So the obvious question here becomes whether something like what happened in Washington and Atlanta could happen in St. Louis?

Well, St. Louis mayor Francis Slay indicated on his Twitter account in September that it wouldn't.

Only time will tell how it all plays out.
