Williams was fairly decent in 2013 and Shelly Smith was a fair not not great backup.

Williams got hurt and played in and started only 3 games. Smith started 3 for Dolphins played in 10 or 11 or so.

So what your saying is we need a young stud guard? Where do I sign for approval?

Yes, and a stud center. I was hoping Barrett Jones would be a starting guard or center this season, but again, injuries.

Jones was a purported 1st or 2nd rounder before he got hurt in college. We got him in the 4th. In year three he needs to start.

I agree and thats what I was hoping for too. I really thought Jones would have made his way on to the field at some point this year if nothing else but to see what they have in him and let him get some game experience but that didn't happen so I dont know whats up with him. I would love to pick up a quality vet center in FA and a decent guard for depth then draft a stud in the second round.

Very telling.
Hard for a QB or offense to be successful with that on the O line.

In 2013 Chris Williams was our worst starter, hands down. No loss there. The problem was we didn't do anything to upgrade...we thought Robinson was going to be able to fill that void and injury happened. So we were stuck with Joseph, who was awful.

Shelley Smith seemed to perform well in spot duty, but by all accounts he was pretty bad in Miami.

That's a long list of all pros and future hall of fame type players. I wonder why Sam hasn't established himself as elite.

I was not a big fan of William's play when he was here but after seeing Joseph's struggles this year I would have rather had the William LG - Saffold RG combo than the Saffold LG - Joseph RG combo. Smith was always just backup material. In retrospect the 2013 offensive line played much better wire to wire than the 2014 line. I like G-Rob's future and the fact that Saffold got extended but we did not see their best either in 2014. There was no Jake Long for most of this season, Well's continued his decline in 2014, Barksdale was not as steady in 2104 as he was in 2013, and as noted above I think Williams was a better fit than Joseph.

Another thing to note (aside from the large number of guys that are out of the league) is that only two of these guys were drafted by the Rams and one (Smith) was an absolute bust.

As would I...my only point was that it wasn't the loss of Chris Williams that was the mistake, it was the poor execution of replacing him.

Yes, Bradford is dealt a short hand all the years when it comes to OL. OL is probably the same or worse than when Fisher and Snead joined. They will try to fix it this year (again). If Rams don't make playoffs next year, then they should let Fisher and Snead go. Rams should not fear the alternative (to Fisher and Snead) will be worse if Rams fail to make the playoffs in 2015. Refer Bronocs.

Exactly. Williams was no Pro Bowler, but he started 16 games and showed enough on film to get a good contract from Buffalo. I, too, would have rather had Williams than Joseph in hindsighht. I was surprised when Shelley Smith got a contract from Miami, I thought he was going the way of Oji and the others who are out of the league.

I'm not sure what to make of that horrendous list. Is it an indictment of Coach Bou, either for his inability to "coach them up" or to find and recognize talent? Or an indictment of the various front office incarnations that have saddled him with re-treads and never-weres?

I agree, it is well understood around here, the Rams need, at least a New Center and LG. But you do appear to have a much, much higher opinion of Williams and Smith than I do. I don't believe they were worth keeping!

Rams will have FIVE OL'er enter Free Agency this year
In 2012 Chris Williams came to Boudreau as a mid season WWC pickup. Chris saw action late 2012 @ ORG and did fair enough. Before Chris signed a bottom tender one yr contract he requested that Boudreau give the opportunity to start & he would give all he had to try to earn it. Boudreau & Chris both kept their words on that .In 2013 as the Rams starting OLG & 4th OT had his most successful NFL season. Chris who is a good guy finally was able to remain healthy & start for the first time. Chris ended his good 2013 season as the starting OLT in the Rams line up.

But bad for the Bills, Chris returned back to his old problem & rut with missed games & more injuries. Bills lost on that UFA signing as most teams do. In 2014 Chris Williams OLG post saw Mike Person get most of the TC & Pre Season reps along with Robinson. When the season began Boudreau turned the OLG post over to Rodger Saffold some Greg Robinson with some Mike Person . Best play @ OLG post in well over a decade!

In 2015 the OLG post is lonely once again. Robinson has moved in @ OLT. Mike Person has departed into FA'cy fantasy land & Boudreau dreams on Saffold returning home to the ORG post. We have been doing some speculation that this lonely OLG post could get see a unknown OL from distant lands occupying it & running it in 2015. ROD members have been tossing out names like Cap busting worn out knee'd Mike Iupati who 2014 teams cap hit was 4.7 million one would think he will get that 3x's on a yearly bases. The best OLG I would prefer is Bengals Clint Boling! If we miss on Boling then Franklin but the first offers for an UFA needs to go back to a well known Ram OLG Mike Person.

Shelley Smith left us & just happen to join the only team in the NFL that has an OL worse than the Rams. Smith was a 6th rd pick by the Texans. Smith was made for a ZB OL. Smith like Chris came by the WWC connection. Smith got over his 3 yrs of injuries & in 2012 had starts @ OLG & ORG. Smith was beat out by the bigger Chris for the 2013 starting OLG post. Smith was the swing OG (third OG) for the entire season with some late season starts @ both posts were UGLY:confused: so he entered UFA in 2014.

I been saying for a long time ....Boudreau has a hobby it's riding around the WWC circuit. downtown old OL bars & soup OL kitchens & OL thrift stores, looking for bargain old worn broken down flawed antique OL'ers(furniture) & refurbishing those old pieces of OL'ers(furniture) & buff them up some paint some varnish, some sanding move them around & using them on Sundays as the Rams starting offensive line. When one of the pieces gets broke he has several more refurbishing projects in waiting.

Last year Boudreau was presented with a brand new heavy duty beautiful strong piece of OL furniture (Greg Robinson) & Boudreau was not happy he shelved it away until all his other pieces got broken up. That kind of furniture just does nothing for him.

I thought the plan execution to replace Chris Williams as the starting 2013 OLG & reserve OLT was 2nd overall 2014 NFL draft selection Greg Robinson? With Jake Long being the OLT.
