I have only seen this game around 10 times....never get sick of seeing the Rams O line giving lots of time! rare now adays. Everett, who I met, is not such a great QB, but he was so accurate this game. He is still one of the best "throwers" you will ever see. Just lacked football intelligence and toughness.

I remember this one. One of the better Rams teams ever. That OLine,secondary,WR's...NICE. I wonder how fast Ron Brown ran the 40 ?
Strong Giants team. Simms,LT,OJ.
A great playoff win on the road for the good guys.
Unfortunately i remember what happened a week later too. The beginning of the end for quite awhile.

Easily. I remember that TD return he had vs the Bears on MNF (i think) where he looked superhuman with that straight line speed.

First, thanks for posting this....
A couple of take aways from this.

5. I had forgotten the love/hate thing with Giants fans and Sims. Off and on booing during a playoff game. Crazy.

4. Madden at the height of his Maddenism. Funny to hear him talk about Harrah being a weightlifter. Madden also never thought a flag was a flag. It was nice to not see a flag on every pass play.

3. Seems tackling was better back then.

2. Man, Everett was strange in the pocket. Very inconsistent feet.

1. It was very refreshing to watch a game with guys playing very hard and not running their mouths and pounding their chests after every play. It would be nice if the NFL could return to that level of professionalism.

<sigh>It still stings. First words out of Summerall's mouth: The Los Angeles Rams...brings back tons of memories. I'm back in high school again and the Rams are on the cusp of becoming a power in the NFL again.

Even thought I didn't know him, I went to Uni with Jim, and he was just as fun to watch at the collegiate level as he was in this game. I was so excited when the Rams picked him up.

And yes, I've probably seen this game about 10-times as well, and it never ever gets old or boring. Thanks very much for posting.

I haven't watched the game nearly that many times...probably the first time I've seen it since back in '89. Everett really hung in there. Was harassed most of the day and should have had a 3TD/0INT day. Flipper didn't help him out much on that interception in the end zone and McGee stopped his route in the end zone late in the game that almost resulted in an interception. Wasn't overly impressed with the receiving for most of the game. At the end of the day it all worked out but there were so MANY drops, body catches, alligator arms, etc. that I think it's a real credit to Everett that he kept on slingin' it.

Looking at this game though, it should have been easy to see that the Rams were in for some trouble the following week. The Giants did a lot more to stop themselves on offense than the Rams defense did and the 49ers weren't one dimensional or inept on offense. The Rams defense wasn't really suited to stop a good offense and the Rams offense was too streaky and unable to win many individual matchups or consistently make tough catches.
