ESPN shouldn't let guys like Louis Riddick analyze a team he's apparently never watched.

St. Louis Rams
Grade: C+

Key signings: G Rodger Saffold, LB Jo-Lonn Dunbar
Key subtractions: G Chris Williams, QB Kellen Clemens, G Harvey Dahl, CB Cortland Finnegan, G Shelley Smith

The Rams did nothing in free agency beyond signing a couple of their own guys. They still could sign an offensive lineman or two, but they will not be big spenders. That could be a good thing.

"I don’t know if there was anyone out in free agency who they felt could come in and help, but they have been burned in free agency anyway with Cortland Finnegan, Harvey Dahl and you could make a case for Scott Wells," Riddick said. "Jake Long is a very questionable acquisition because of the injuries. Kendall Langford has underperformed. They need to find an impact player in the draft."

Other teams valued the Rams' offensive linemen more than the Rams valued them. It's tough to fault St. Louis for letting Williams or Smith get away. Both came to St. Louis as stopgap players, and both performed better than anticipated. There's a sense line coach Paul T. Boudreau can coach up the unit effectively even when the personnel is lacking.

Getting Saffold back was a bonus after he agreed to terms with Oakland on a richer deal initially, but, as Polian noted, Saffold hit the open market for a reason (injuries). The Rams could still wind up adding low-cost reinforcements to their line, but to this point, their needs at that position have become more pronounced, and they are counting on oft-injured starters in Saffold and Long.

Finnegan was a bust, but Dahl, Langford, and Long have played well. So has Scott Wells albeit injured too much.

How do they let a guy make such comments? It makes ESPN look bad and their readers mislead. Lesson; be careful what you believe from ESPN's "experts".

Langford was good last year 6 sacks and a handful of tackles had a very nuce pass rush at 4 mill per year is not bad.

It's an A+++ for execution. They said they weren't going to overspend on first day guys and made it clear Saffold was their main target of FA. Snead stated there were solid players to be had after the first wave of FA. He brought in Hill (love it), Carrington (solid interior pass rush DT), and a very interesting CB in Reid. Mission accomplished...

They had a plan, a direction, and executed it. They want to build through the draft and resign guys like Quinn and Bradford over the next couple seasons. They have a shot at doing that.

Well done, Snisher.

Sorry we're not like the Cowboys and overspend to no avail. 20 million in dead money says it all...

Same goes for the Deadskins

For the money Wells, Finny, Cook and Dahl have been disappointing. Langford has been a quite solid FA signing and one I'd make again.

Langford has played to his FA contract, yet some don't like that.

Don't know if many of you watched the "Jeff Fisher" radio show last year. From some bar. A question from the audience popped up about how well Langford was playing. Dryly, Fisher said, yeah, if we can get him on the right side of the guard. D'Marco, laughing, says, no a DT has to shoot the gap. Jeff just shook his head.

Surprisingly, that's when the Rams run D stiffened. And Langford played well the rest of the season.

Does anyone else think Sando is a complete tool?

The quote wasn't Sando's, though. It was Louis Riddick.

Still, Sando put it into an article he authored. Shame.

ESPN is largely a joke. Big stars are all that matter. A dunk, a HR ect matter more than actual game.

Should read "Key additions by subtractions":

"ESPN shouldn't let guys like Louis Riddick analyze a team he's apparently never watched." +1

Agreed. Williams is a backup at best and a shitty starter. KC did ok, but ok backup QBs are a dime a dozen. Dahl had reached the point where he's just an average OG. Finn was just making too much and we don't know if he'll ever get "it" back. Smith is another backup OL.

We may have had one of the more under the radar FA periods. Usually the teams that are playing in January aren't the ones you see spending $40M+ in FA. But the teams playing in January are the ones that find a way to retain key players (like Rodger) and sign lesser known FAs (like Will Hayes) on the cheap.

I think that our centerpiece signing was Saffold. He was our big signing. Idk why we're graded at a C, because we didn't throw money at guys like Byrd or Verner when we can get great talents in the draft for a fraction of the price? Then we added Hill to take KC's spot and challenge a rookie QB. Resigning Dunbar was cheap, but a SOLID signing. So was Carrignton, but he's overlooked because he had to take a backseat to guys like Mario Williams and Marcell Darius in Buffalo.

A good FA doesn't have to fill all needs. It simply has to fill enough holes to where you don't NEED to fill dozens of holes come draft time.
