Just heard this on the radio. Looks like this will be his final year as a Ram.

Put him in position to negotiate for a final contract, but he can go elsewhere if he wishes as well. Nothing we can do really but wait to see what happens. It's early in the season, we have no idea what'll happen.

The most shocking thing about this is the timing. Why announce this now? Is it a motivational move to get the team to rally and get SJ a ring? Is it a move to motivate SJ? Are they putting the ball in his court, as he has repeatedly stated he wants to retire a Ram?

COULD BE his agent/sister has been pushing for an extension and the Rams said "not now" and they said "OK void that last year".

Can't see the timing being good for the teams focus, just can't.

I hate to say I kinda saw something like this happening...

so I won't.

But you know what they say about a player's final contract year. Look out, baby. I also expect to see them come to some sort of agreement before the end of this year if things look up for SJ. I know we all want him to retire a Ram, and he's been the backbone of this team, and stuff like that ... but the fact remains, we (as a team) haven't done anything since he's been here. The money was going to catch up with him, and at a minimum I figured they'd restructure. This is certainly a restructure.

Not sure I understand.. Does Jackson have the option of voiding his final year?

He did originally if he met certain benchmarks, but he didn't meet them. So, they let him opt out anyway.

Soooooo... He doesn't HAVE to opt out if he so chooses?

That's how I understand it. It's his choice.
