Preseason schedule coming Monday
Posted by Mike Florio on April 9, 2017

The 2017 regular-season schedule is coming soon. Coming sooner than that will be the preseason schedule.

The NFL announced recently that the preseason schedule will be announced at 5:00 p.m. ET on Monday.

The 65-game non-game games will start with the Cardinals and Cowboys playing in the Hall of Fame game, which will get started on a Thursday night this year in order to avoid last year’s debacle that occurred as the NFL transitioned the venue from the Hall of Fame induction ceremony to the Colts-Packers game that never was.

Perhaps the most noteworthy of the remaining 64 games will be the CBS prime-time game, since it will be the official debut of new No. 1 analyst Tony Romo.

The games themselves continue to be glorified practice sessions. Not long ago, the league regularly criticized the quality of preseason games, in an apparent effort to justify swapping two preseason games for a pair of extra regular-season games. With the 18-game season meeting widespread resistance, the NFL quickly stopped complaining about the preseason.

The league has the ability under the current labor deal to reduce the preseason by two games without the agreement of the union. It was believed at one point that the league would vow to do just that, hoping that the union would respond by offering to expand the regular season in order to recoup the lost revenue.

But the NFL Players Association could end up calling the league’s bluff, with both sides losing a large chunk of preseason revenue — and the losses hitting the teams more significantly than each of the league’s players.

This year's preseason games should give us a lot to talk about. Gotta think the offense will be clicking way better than it has in the passing game, so really looking forward to seeing them.

Wonder if Goff has his playbook yet... "TEST TOMORROW MORNING KID STUDY UP!!!"

Apparently one of the perks Jerrah got for his Cowboys was getting to play at the Rams early in the preseason to coincide with their training camps out there so they don't have to travel.

"dress up" game LA v LA. meh. But I guess as exciting as preseason can be.

Boy that "Battle for LA" game is looming large for preseason. You can bet both teams want to at least make statements early on about whose city it is.

Rams 2017 Preseason Schedule Announced

A year after setting a record with their first game back in Los Angeles, the Rams will kick off their 2017 preseason slate against the same opponent in the Coliseum.

The NFL announced its preseason schedule on Monday afternoon, and the Rams will face the Cowboys in Week 1, head up to Oakland to square off against the Raiders in Week 2, matchup against the Chargers at home in Week 3, and play the Packers in Green Bay for Week 4.

Week 1 - vs. Cowboys

Last year, the Rams and Cowboys set a U.S. preseason attendance record with nearly 90,000 fans welcoming the franchise home to Southern California on a nationally televised game. L.A. won the contest 28-24 in come-from-behind fashion, with quarterback Sean Mannion hitting running back Aaron Green with a go-ahead touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter.

With Dallas’ first couple weeks of training camp in Oxnard — where the Rams held last year’s offseason program — and the Rams at U.C. Irvine, the two clubs will meet in the region’s middle at the Coliseum.

The Rams and Cowboys will also matchup in Dallas during the 2017 regular season.

Week 2 - at Raiders

While the Raiders’ relocation to Las Vegas was approved by NFL owners in March, the club is currently slated to play at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum through 2018. That’s where the Rams will head for a quick trip upstate to play a team that finished 12-4 in 2016, with Derek Carr emerging as one of the most exciting young quarterbacks in the game.

The Rams and Raiders last met in the 2015 preseason, a game also played in Oakland. The Raiders won that matchup 18-3, with wide receiver Amari Cooper impressing in his NFL debut.

The two teams last squared off in the regular season in 2014, when the Rams came away with a 52-0 victory.

Week 3 - vs. Chargers

The first battle between the two L.A. clubs will take place at the Coliseum for the third exhibition.

The third preseason game is the traditional “dress rehearsal” matchup for clubs, and this one will sport two teams with new men at the top. Anthony Lynn has taken over as the Chargers head coach after spending much of last season as the Bills offensive coordinator. While a significant portion of the club’s coaching staff has been retained — including offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt — Lynn has brought in former Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley to implement a new defensive scheme.

The Rams and Chargers last met in the 2014 regular season, when the Chargers came away with a 27-24 victory in San Diego.

Week 4 - at Packers

The Rams will end their preseason slate with a trip to Wisconsin to face the Packers at Lambeau Field. The final exhibition matchup is the only one played with reduced rosters, as teams must cut down to 75 players following Week 3. It’s also traditionally a time for players on the bubble to make a strong final impression with increased playing time before the final roster reduction to 53.

The Rams last faced the Packers in a 2015 regular-season matchup, which Green Bay won at home 24-10.

Rams preseason:

Dallas
at Oakland
LA Chargers (CBS)
at Green Bay

If that was a 4-game stretch in the reg season, it would seem pretty daunting, depending on what the Chargers would be...

I like the LA-LA thing. It's nice if you have two teams in the same city to have a friendly rivalry. In some cases, once it's been around long enough it's not so friendly.....Yanks/Mets, Cubs/White Sox

True enough. Isn't game three of pre-season usually where the starters play the most minutes of all the pre-season games ?

Rams preseason:

LA Chargers (CBS)

The Rams are a all grass team !!

McVay lives using the word grass.

-Wade's move from Colorado was made easier now the changing of the Mary J being legal in Cali .- Blue Font.

I can't wait for The RMs to get on the grass as well. --Anither words as Chargers fans would say, the pitch , since they are playing in a soccer field.

--Playing football on a Ricky Henderson Baseball Field( just got named that) . Memories of Anaheim & The Raiders coming done the fwy.

--The Rams going North on the 5 fwy to play the Raiders again except this time
It's a lot further . Of course there flying , but don't miss the plane . That's my drive to work if I do.

--Oxnard & Cal Lu are only a 1/2 away from each other. Dallas & there practice field. It will be further when The Rams move there practice field ??

Green Bay brings up Linehan twice in preseason. The Rams training camp in the cheese head State .
