Interesting to see the O line fluctuation-ratings with Saffold...no wonder Bradford couldn't go
down field so much.....or, I am wrong...

2009

No. 19
St. Louis Rams (Run No. 14, Pass No. 15, Penalties No. 27)A generally acceptable all-around job was obscured by indiscipline and penalties.Richie Incognito‘s temper caused him to be jettisoned mid-season andAlex Barron‘s penchant for false starts found him ironically takingFlozell Adams‘ place in Dallas.
Best Player:No one stood out, but LGJacob Bellwas consistent in all facets of his performance.
Biggest Concern:After a quite awful 2008,Adam Goldberg(playing both RG and RT) came through with a perfectly respectable 2009 and if you consider only his work at RT, you can upgrade that to “good.” Will the Rams kick him inside again and potentially move the “stable” RT position back into a state of flux?

26. St Louis Rams (2009 Rank: 19th)

Run Rank 29th, Pass Rank 22nd, Penalties Rank 20th

Weirdly, the one Ram who really impressed us last year was one who saw only 153 snaps, John Greco. Unfortunately the rest of the guys were less impressive. Jason Brown has yet to go any way toward earning that big deal he got, and recent high draft pick tackles are far from impressive. They have some talent and potential, but if it doesn’t show up on the field it’s not much use.

Best Player:He’s not the greatest run blocker, but he very rarely allows pressure. That’sJacob Bellat left guard.

Biggest Concern:While Adam Goldberg is miscast at right guard,Jason Smithlooks great one day, and horrific the next. He needs to start living up to his potential and soon.

28. St Louis Rams (26th)

Run Rank 25th, Pass Rank 28th, Penalties Rank 31st

With the Rams getting rid of the ball so quickly in 2010, it kind of got lost on people that the line wasn’t all that good. There was no hiding it in 2011 with their efforts to rebuild the offensive line being a huge failure; the lone exception being the pickup ofHarvey Dahl. When the dust settled, a total of 11 players were used on the line with big free agent signings, former first round picks and their franchise left tackle all looking terrible in action. For a team that has invested quite a bit of money and draft picks on the line, it’s inexcusable to have got it so wrong, so often.

Best Player:Whether it was at right tackle or right guard, there wasn’t a better Rams lineman thanHarvey Dahl (+3.2).

Worst Player:You could go in a number of directions here. However, forRodger Saffold (-14.7)to give up 11 sacks, four hits and 17 hurries on 376 pass blocks, it has to leave you worrying about his long-term prospects.

26. St Louis Rams (28)

PB – 21st, RB – 26th, PEN – 29th
Stud: After a rookie year where he got too much praise, and a sophomore season where he earned his criticism, I for one wasn’t expecting much from Rodger Saffold (+8.6). Color me wrong, as he excelled in pass protection, looking like the player he was drafted to be.

Dud: The Rams got a lot of sub-standard play from a lot of sub-standard players. None stood out more than Quinn Ojinnaka (-9.5) before he was replaced in the lineup and then cut.

Summary: Every time I write about the Rams’ line I wax lyrical about how it’s a miracle they finished as high as they did. They coped with injuries and filled in with guys who were flops elsewhere and managed to get a line on the field that wasn’t an embarrassment. There’s a long way to go, but kudos for that if nothing else.
2013

13. St Louis Rams (26th)

PB: 17th, RB: 9th, PEN: 26th

Stud:Many, ourselves included, wondered if Jake Long (+25.8) was done. He’d enjoyed a great start to his career in Miami but two so-so years left a lot to be desired. Well, this was the year he came back with a bang, and it’s a horrible shame his season ended with an ACL and MCL tear.

Dud:He may be a former first-rounder but Chris Williams (-21.8) is just a liability as a lineman. Far too much pressure, not enough good run blocking, and he’s the team’s weak link on offense.

Analysis:A step forward but perhaps not as much as they would have like to see. They nailed it with the pickup of Long and got surprisingly good play from Joe Barksdale, Shelley Smith and Rodger Saffold at guard. That would suggest a higher finish, but the interior trio of Williams, Harvey Dahl and Scott Wells really didn’t play up to the level that was needed of them.

Man Bradford sucks, he took a 19th ranked O line and turned it into the 26th ranked O line.

He's also butchered the sound system at the dome. Even Tim Couch didn't do that in Cleveland.
