The thing that is being overlooked, is his future is not decided just because he doesn't land somewhere this week. Practice Squads will remain fluid throughout the season, so there is nothing saying he won't be signed by someone at some point. Same goes for just about any of these other guys.

Yeah, I wonder what Fisher told him. There are injuries in various spots, forcing the Rams to worry about depth. But in a few weeks either those injuries will heal or PS players will be promoted.

I'm just upset because so many of the signings so far are for injury coverage - and I do want them to have at least a couple of players who might be real contributors in the long run. Now, I don't know if Sam is one they feel that way about - but he sure looked promising.

Not that I give a fat rats ass about this whole thing, but I have to feel for Fisher on this one, after all he was the one one who "rescued the NFL" from the maelstorm of criticism that would have ensued a "Sam-less" draft, he gave him a shot to perform and he sorta did perform, thing is the Rams are a tad bit deep on the DL and pass rush specialist's they have a plenty (apparently) most every other team is lacking Ram depth at this position, you would think (yeah right) there would be at least one that would scoop up our last DL cut...but nooooo, looks like that ball has been served back in the Rams court, no problem I say sign the guy and let the rest be history.

yeah, you could just set it up so that clicking the inappropriate button results in a small confirmation message, rather than having a tally that everyone can see.

A few thoughts;
  1. With touch screens, there will always be accidental taps. I've hit them all a few times scrolling up and down.
  2. Seeing how the purpose of a forum is to interact, it's only natural there will be disagreement and tones that will result in inappropriate tags. However...
  3. The beauty of this "community moderation feature and count indicator", however, it acts as a calibration advising us as users where the line exists as dictated by the community.
This is a long winded way of saying; it seems to be working well as is.

Well, there ya go...

Michael Sam won't be a Ram... no way in hell the Rams carry 2 DL on the PS...

and F'n CONRATH!!!! Seriously, I don't get why they like him. He doesn't hold the point of attack, he doesn't penetrate, he doesn't collapse the pocket and he gets moved on running plays. Every big play involving the twos or threes I saw seemed to involve watching Conrath getting pushed out of the way and the opposing RB running to daylight...

However we construct this PS, get guys who are going to either develop in the future or help us win now. But this? This is ridiculous... F'n Conrath?
I think they keep conrath on the PS to give the olinemen somebody to push around and build confidence.....

I want Bryant back. With his injury, he didn't get chance to do much in preseason, but much as I like Cody Davis, we could use more depth at Safety and his intensity and leadership would be good. Would also like them to bring back Gilbert and coach him up. Austin Davis looks way better than he did 12 months ago. If they can get that level of improvement out of Gilbert he would be worth keeping on the roster.

Agree about Bryant. I thought he was a stud free safety in college until he got hurt. Didn't really recover until training camp was almost over. I thought for sure Fisher was going to sing him to the practice squad, especially over Matt Daniels. Oh well... I believe Fisher knows what he's doing. Go Rams.

Does a team have to keep 10 on PS?

There are two reasons to keep players on the practice squad. 1) to give the "prospects" a chance to stay in the system and develop, while not taking up a precious roster spot. 2) to keep players who may be needed in positions they are thin at on the 53 man roster.

While keeping Bryant would certainly be something you would like to see them do, Daniels is a much better option should they need to activate him. I'm not so sure that they both won't end up being part of the 10 man PS.

I'm still hoping for Pryor!

If they truly just want a veteran than Grossman is perfect and I'm sure he'll pick up the system expeditiously. However, Pryor comes with upside, but there is a side of me that would be scared about them thinking Pryor could have potential to start. In the long run I want the Rams to draft somebody next year. There will be plenty of options and they won't have to sell the farm to move up either.

We'll see how this plays out, but IMO one of these guys will be signed and they will release a TE, because why in the hell would you need five?

An all-TE basketball team is the only reason I can come up with.

If I'm not mistaken, when the Rams were tight against the cap a few years back they didn't/couldn't even keep 8. Don't know if the new rules makes it mandatory though..
Am I wrong in assuming the PS salaries are not calculated into the cap? I thought it didn't even include the entire 53 man roster?

Once the regular season begins the accounting rules change and nobody is free in the NFL.

Every roster will now have 53 active players. Every team will field a 10-man practice squad. All players on the various reserve lists will now immediately count on the salary cap. That’s why for those managing the cap, there is probably no worse week of the year than the one in which the final preseason game is played. Nearly half the players who will participate in the game have almost no chance of making the football team. But if they are injured, they become a burden on a team’s salary cap, moving to the injured reserve list or receiving an injury settlement.
...
So what are my top three teams that will likely be looking to create cap space in the coming days?

St. Louis Rams

The Rams currently have the least cap room in the NFL with just $1.67 million in cap space. The Rams already have placed Sam Bradford and Isaiah Pead on IR and they also have three other players on the list. That means that in a few days, the Rams will need to account for 58 players and a practice squad. If they opt to sign a full 10-man practice squad, it means the Rams will lose about $3.66 million in cap space. That gives them have no choice but to make a roster move before the start of the season.

So that's new this year right? This sucks. The extra two spots on the practice squad will do us no good. No news on Bradford reworking his contact? That seems to be imminent doesn't it?
