I have always been of the mind that offense wins games but defense wins Championships! But I have always remember that the late,Great, George Allen always said that the Special Teams Unit was the most important unit on a Team! He finished his career with a record of 116-47-5 a win percentage of .681. Finishing 3rd all-time behind Lombardi and Madden. to me that speaks volumes for his opinion! Then again, being the biggest "Fearsome-Foursome Fan in the known world" I believe Defense is still the most important unit!! What say you my friends!? Offense, Defense, or Special Teams which is most important?

I think defensive teams are more consistent, thus have a better chance in the playoffs. Not to mention, if you can keep the game close... you are always just a play or mistake away from winning it.

That said; stats show you need to score >24 to be consistently winning.

Recipe; Excellent defense, good offense, good kickers.

Rams:
Defense - check
Kickers - check
Offense - TBD

Go Rams!

Yeah, outside of 2011, the winners show some degree of balance if nothing else.

Special teams can win or lose a game with one play. I don't think any group is more important than the other, however.
I think they all feed off of each other here.

It takes contributions from all 3, no doubt. But like a Hockey Goaltender, a playmaker at QB is the biggest single NFL gamechanger. Sam has enough pieces in place now and a D that will get him the ball. Our depth means the ST will shine, also. We're on our way gentlemen

Only two teams without a top 10 O, but four teams without a top 10 D. Look at the ranking of some of the defenses, 23, 17, 20, 25, 12.

That will rarely cut it on O.

Only one top 10 defense carries an O that wasn't top 10 on this list. But a top 10 O carried four non top ten defenses, rankings of 20, 23, 25 and 12

This snapshot tells me that O rules the day. If you aren't in the top ten you have a significantly slimmer chance.

Offense or Defense is more important due to them being on the field more than Special Teams but I think a great defense trumps a great offense, Look at the Hawks last year versus the record setting Broncos.

George did indeed know how to win in the near term. Problem was, he'd sacrificed young players for older guys who could win for him now with no regard for tomorrow. Don't misunderstand, I loved the guy because he was always competitive, albeit short sighted, IMO.

I am not too concerned with the implied poll. However, I do want the Horns to rank in the top five in all three categories. Ideally, I want them to rank #1 in all three---I doubt that's ever happened before!

I'd always enjoyed it when the Rams had a nasty defense. Then along came Kurt Warner and the GSOT and I loved that even more. ST's? We have an excellent punter and a very good kicker. Now if we can get another Tony Horne we'll be in business.

Austin is suddenly chopped liver?

Man you are spoiled and jaded! :)

That doesn't even make any sense. So here's a couple of bananas dancing.:banana:

So you want sense, and a punt returner equivalent to Tony Horne? Even though Austin has already proven he is better?

I've never seen this side of you before. It's greedy and unbecoming. You're much less pretty to me now.

Banana hahahaha

Whatever you don't have is the most important unit, Allen paid more attention to ST's and won because others thought them insignificant, BTW Vermeil was at heart a ST coach.
Still none is more important to winning, but if you are deficient in an area, it will make you lose.

Start with a great defense, and then build an offense that can put enough points on the board to win. That's what the Rams are doing right now, too.

All three phases are important. But history shows, the best teams with longevity play GREAT Defense, GOOD Offense and GOOD ST's. Proven formula

Hahaha!!! That's what I got.

Perfect storms win Championships more times then not. An exclusion...

Steelers beating the Cards. Cards had the "Perfect Storm" thing going. Steelers had a miracle TD catch, still shocked.
