This playoff season looks exceptional. As I look at the brackets there are going to be some great matchups right out the gate in round 1.

Blues vs Wild is probably one of the finest matchups. I know some of you are Blues fans, and as a Kings fan they're going to be who I pull for this playoffs since my team is out. Seems like the Blues have flown under the radar in spite of fielding a very good team throughout the season, they might be able to make some noise but Minnesota is going to be tough. Going to watch this one closely.

Another matchup I love is Penguins vs Bluejackets. Columbus reminds me a bit of the Kings of yore, going to be pulling for them in the eastern brackets. Plus I hate the effin Pens. God they piss me off. Here's hoping they get knocked out in round 1.

Washington is probably going to run the table this time around. I know they choke annually, but this particular team I think is gonna get er done. Going to be fun to watch it unfold this season.

Ducks and Sharks can suck it btw. Hope they both lose round 1, as I question the legitimacy of their parents and everything else you can think of with divisional rivals lol.

seriously though I'm worried about Columbus, they split the season series so this will probably go seven.

Love playoff hockey. Bruins got a gutsy win last night. Playing without their 2nd line C - Krejci and 1st and 2nd line defensemen, Carlo and Krug pulled out a 2-1 win in Ottawa.

Now this is probably the worst series, so many probably didnt not see but keep an eye our for Charlie McEvoy. 19 year old defensemen, fresh off his freshman year at Boston University. Kid play over 24 minutes and was a stud on the power play. You dont see too often a 19 year old defenseman step in like that. Kid has only played 2 AHL games.

Caught McEvoy pro debut in Providence last week. Impressive kid...The Spoked Bs got a good one with him.

Funny after the 2nd period last night I wasthisclose to turning the game off..disgusted with the Bruins in the 2nd period and the fact they didn't beat Ottowa at all during regular season . Flipped over to the Pens-CBJ game and missed Vattrano goal but caught the GW by Marchand

I was in the same boat as you...keep the kids up to watch the 3rd or go to bed. Luckily I kept them up lol.

Allen looks great, we need to play better offensively though. Nice to take both games in Minny though.

Seems like being up 3-0 isn't all that safe - anything can still happen. Better than being down 0-3 though. Let's go Blues!!

The Rangers/Canadians series all knotted up 2-2 is getting pretty nasty. The refs are letting them play too. blood is getting spilled with no penalties. It's escalating each period.

Yeah that series has been great to watch. and tbh the refs are letting them play in just about every series.

Have you guys watched the Sharks/Oilers games? I swear man I don't think I can remember a series with as few stoppages. Exciting hockey up and down the ice between those two, probably the most entertaining series of them all.

Watching the Blues putting down the Wild, 2-0 right now in first period. Blues are gonna advance congrats dudes.

Read a column the other day....one line, the author says the NFL and the NBA are trying to shorten their games....no one wants an NHL game to end

He's right.

Watched Toronto v Washington tonight 5 of 6 games went to overtime in that series.

4 of 6, went to overtime in the Rangers v Canadiens series I believe.

Blackhawks were a huge disappointment as a favorite.

Great first round.

I like the Blues and Oilers, Penguins and Rangers in round 2.

Random thoughts after Round 1

First -- the West:
Experienced some big time schadenfreude watching Nashville sweep the Blackhawks -- including shutting them out in their own barn for the first 2 games

Blues really took it to the Wild, whose game kind of tailed off around mid-March and never fully bounced back. It's official -- Bruce Boudreau is the NHL's equivalent of Marty Schottenheimer.

I'm predicting the winner of the Blues-Preds series will represent the Western Conference in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Despite the lopsided outcome, I really enjoyed the chippiness in the Anaheim-Calgary series. The dagger really came in Game 3 when Calgary pissed away a 4-1 lead -- Anaheim continues to be their kryptonite.

On to the East:

Really didn't have a dog in the Rangers-Habs fight. Someone had to win that series -- and someone did. Moving on....

Despite finishing 2nd in the Atlantic, Ottawa is flying under the radar -- plus, given the storyline of Craig Anderson and his wife, I have a hard time rooting against them.

It looked like the Caps underestimated the Leafs -- was really hoping to see the Leafs do what the Preds did to Chicago. Toronto's a very young team -- within 3 years, they'll be SCARY good.

Lastly (and please don't throw anything sharp) -- I'm a Penguins fan, so I was pleased that they knocked off the Blue Jackets. Hoping they can do it to Washington in Round 2 -- the biggest factor for the Pens will be Marc-Andre Fleury and whether or not he can keep it up in the next round.

I thought that the Penguins played the best of all 1st round teams. 5 game series win against a quality opponent.
Fleury will have to continue to be flawless in the goal, as you said. Was it 49 saves in game 5?

Caps have to prove that they can beat the Penguins.

Yup; he had 49 saves in Game 5. Which also means Columbus had 51 shots on goal.

But that's been the Pens' M.O. this year -- being near the top for combined shots on goal per game. It's a double-edged sword, for sure. A far cry from those Devils teams in the '90s, where the opponents' SOG per game were in the high teens/low 20's.

They'll need to keep Washington's SOG per game to 30 or less, if they want to move on. Would also help if they can stay out of the penalty box.
