Cream of the Crop/Tight Ends

Maxx Williams Minnesota 6-4 249

Lacks top-end speed for position, but does a lot of things well.

Clive Walford Miami 6-4 251

Mackey Award finalist in 2014 with 44 catches for 676 yards, seven touchdowns.

Jeff Heuerman Ohio State 6-5 254

Production slowed by nagging injuries and revolving door at quarterback.

Tyler Kroft Rutgers 6-5 246

Good receiving skills despite having only so-so statistics; high-effort blocker.

MyCole Pruitt So. Illinois 6-2 251

Led all FBS tight ends in catches (81), yards (861) and touchdowns (13) last season.

Fullbacks

of Note

Jalston Fowler, Alabama

Mike Burton, Rutgers

Joey Iosefa, Hawaii

Jimmay Mundine, Kansas

Local Line

MyCole Pruitt, who played ball at Kirkwood High, then SIUC, projects as fourth- or fifth-round pick.

Fun Fact

Williams’ father, Brian, (1989) and one of his grandfathers, Robert, (1959) were NFL draft picks.

Rams Needs

Basically none. Re-signing Lance Kendricks in free agency means the Rams should have their top three tight ends back in Kendricks, Jared Cook, and Cory Harkey. Throw in Alex Bayer and Justice Cunningham, and it’s their top five from the end of last season. Harkey doubles up at fullback.

Rating the Field

Only 10 tight ends were drafted a year ago, and this appears to be a thin class with none expected to go in the first round. Fullback continues to be an endangered species in the NFL, with maybe a handful drafted in the middle to late rounds.
