Dante Fowler has at least 10 traffic tickets in the last 20 months

Everyone breaks an occasional traffic law, but Jaguars defensive end Dante Fowler appears to be doing more than his fair share of unsafe driving.

Fowler has at least 10 traffic tickets in the last 20 months, according to Mike Kaye of First Coast News, who has searched court records in four Florida counties dating back to December of 2015.

According to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, one of Fowler’s citations was for driving 98 mph in a 55 mph zone, and another was for careless driving, causing $1,500 of property damage.

Fowler’s dangerous driving reportedly precipitated his battery and criminal mischief arrest on Tuesday. Fowler reportedly hit a man, knocked off his glasses, stepped on the glasses and took the man’s groceries and threw them in a lake, all because the man criticized Fowler’s driving.

With two arrests and 10 traffic tickets in a year and a half, Fowler is making more of an impact off the field than on it.

Packers assistant Darren Perry convicted, fined for drunk driving arrest

Green Bay Packers safeties coach Darren Perry pleaded no contest and was fined for a December arrest for drunk driving, according to Paul Srubas of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Perry was fined $225 with an eight-month suspension of his license for the first-time offense, which is deemed an ordinance violation in Brown County. Additional fees and costs bring the total to $956. The plea agreement led to other charges being dropped against Perry, including unsafe lane deviation and refusal to take a breathalyzer test.

Perry has spent eight seasons with the Packers and 15 years in the NFL as a coach. He spent time as an assistant with the Cincinnati Bengals, Pittsburgh Steelers and Oakland Raiders before joining Mike McCarthy’s staff in Green Bay in 2009.

Michael Oher’s bad week keeps getting worse.

According to the Associated Press, the former Panthers left tackle — who was released Thursday — has now been sued in connection with the Nashville incident in which he was accused of assaulting an Uber driver.

Oher faces misdemeanor charges from the April incident. The lawsuit, filed by driver Girma Berkessa said that Oher was “extremely intoxicated.” The suit also contends Oher pushed the driver to the ground, kicked him and called him a homophobic slur several times.

Oher was released with a failed physical designation. He’s been in the league’s concussion protocol since Week Three of last season, and visited a concussion specialist earlier this week.

Michael Irvin won’t be charged with sexual assault

More than a month after Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin and his lawyer held a press conference aimed at lobbying for prosecutors to not charge Irvin with sexual assault, the case is finally closed.

Via Andy Slater of WINZ radio, Broward County authorities have decided not to proceed, due to a lack of evidence.

“Nothing happened that night,” Irvin said during the press conference, which ended with Irvin saying, “Make a decision, let’s move on.”

The decision has been made, and the authorities have moved on. This doesn’t keep the alleged victim from suing Irvin, and the much lower standard of proof (plus the unavailability of the Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination) could mean that, although Irvin won’t face criminal jeopardy, the case may not be fully closed.

Cowboys’ Lucky Whitehead arrested, warrant issued for shoplifting
Posted by Michael David Smith on July 24, 2017

Cowboys wide receiver Lucky Whitehead was reportedly arrested for shoplifting last month, then had a warrant issued for his arrest after he failed to appear in court to answer for the charge.

Whitehead’s initial arrest took place on June 22 in Virginia, according to TMZ. At that time, he was accused of taking less than $200 worth of items from a convenience store.

On July 6, Whitehead failed to show up at Prince William County Court for an appearance related to the June 22 arrest, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He will now also face a charge of failure to appear in court.

It’s been an odd offseason for Whitehead, who said last week that his dog had been taken and was being held for ransom, then said a day later that his dog had been returned.

Whitehead has an uphill battle to make the Cowboys’ roster, and off-field distractions won’t help.

Former Cowboys WR Lucky Whitehead Warrant Rescinded, Cops Had Wrong Guy
by: Darrelle Lincoln On Tuesday, July 25, 2017

Well, isn’t this a huge twist to the story.

The Dallas Cowboys, clearly tired of the negative press, cut wide receiver Lucky Whitehead on Monday after TMZ reported he was arrested back in June on a shoplifting charge. He pleaded his case that it wasn’t him, but lost his job anyway.

Now there’s a huge twist to the story, as cops revealed it was a case of mistaken identity. They arrested somebody else, not Whitehead.

“Lucky Whitehead was telling the TRUTH — he was not the man arrested for shoplifting on June 22, this according to Prince William County officials.

We spoke with commonwealth’s attorney, Paul Ebert, who says the case against Lucky Whitehead has been dropped after an internal investigation into the arrest.

Long story short … Ebert says the man who was was only “verbally identified” by the arresting officer. The arrestee did not have an I.D. on him.

The man told cops he was Lucky Whitehead and gave them Lucky’s information, Ebert says.

Cops reviewed surveillance video at the convenience store which showed the man was NOT Lucky.”

What a horrible turn of events as the Cowboys didn’t even bother to wait for the facts to come out.

Steelers’ Marcus Gilbert sued by man he allegedly body slammed
Posted by Michael David Smith on July 28, 2017

A 54-year-old man has sued Steelers offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert, saying that Gilbert body slammed him and broke his leg in a confrontation at Gilbert’s home.

The man, Larry Parker, says in the lawsuit that he knows many Steelers players and staffers, said the confrontation began at the parking lot of the Steelers’ facility on January 11, when Parker was dropping off a Steelers staffer’s car. Parker says he “voiced a jesting greeting” to Gilbert and then drove off.

According to the lawsuit, Gilbert apparently took offense to that “jesting greeting” and began sending hostile text messages to Parker. Eventually Parker went to Gilbert’s house to discuss the matter, and according to Parker, Gilbert picked him up and slammed him onto the bricks outside Gilbert’s home.

Parker says he suffered a broken leg, a back injury and needed surgery. He is seeking more than $35,000 in damages. Gilbert has had nothing to say about the matter.

Former Cardinals safety Chris Clemons has been sentenced to jail for assaulting a woman outside an Arizona nightclub.

According to TMZ, Clemons was found guilty of misdemeanor assault intentionally causing physical injury.

He could have been jailed up to six months, but was given a 10 days, with five of those suspended. He also had to pay $30,000 in restitution, and has to enroll in an anger management program.

Clemons was cut by the Cardinals last September (after the May 2016 incident), and hasn’t resurfaced in the league.

At 31 years old and with a jail sentence to serve, it’s unlikely he’ll get another chance to play. He was originally a fifth-round pick of the Dolphins and spent five years there, and has also played for the Texans.

Former NFL player Adrien Robinson was caught this week with 25 pounds of marijuana in his car.

The Daily Item reports that Robinson was stopped on Interstate 80 in Union County, Pennsylvania, and police found about 25 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle.

“A search of the vehicle was conducted and yielded numerous large bags of marijuana,” the state trooper who pulled him over wrote in an affidavit.

Robinson faces a felony count of marijuana possession and a misdemeanor count of possessing drug paraphernalia.

The 28-year-old Robinson was a 2012 fourth-round pick of the Giants who played for the team for four years but rarely contributed much, finishing his career with just five catches for 50 yards. He then signed with the Jets but lasted just a few months during the 2016 offseason. He’s been out of the NFL for more than a year.

Since this isn't possession for sales, he's got a really bad smoking problem....I guess I'm cool...

Do we need to post all the Former NFL players stuff? It doesn't affect the current season, and the NFL has no control over them for testing purposes etc. Otherwise I looks like it former player arrest season.

Jarvis Landry under investigation for battery
Posted by Mike Florio on August 7, 2017

AP

Last week was a bad week for the Dolphins. This week is starting off badly, too.

Andy Slater of WINZ reports that receiver Jarvis Landry is under investigation for battery. Citing multiple unnamed sources, Slater reports that the incident occurred earlier this year at Landry’s apartment in Ft. Lauderdale, and that it involves his girlfriend.

The Broward County State Attorney’s Office is expected to eventually make a decision on possible charges. Per Slater, Landry’s girlfriend is not cooperating.

For Landry, a separate problem has now arisen. Even if he’s not charged, the NFL will investigate the situation, and it will potentially discipline him under the personal conduct policy. If the situation isn’t resolved this season, it surely will impact his market in free agency next March.

Moments ago, coach Adam Gase told reporters that the team is aware of the situation. Gase otherwise had no comment.

Former NFL CB injures two officers while trying to escape courtroom

Former NFL cornerback Dimitri Patterson was back in a courtroom, and he made it obvious he didn’t want to be there. Patterson bolted from a Miami-Dade courtroom Tuesday after a judge ordered him placed under custody, according to the Miami Herald.

Patterson, 34, injured two police officers as he tried to escape. He was detained and is expected to face charges of battery on a law enforcement officer after a female officer was taken to the hospital with a head injury and a male officer injured a wrist.

Patterson was arrested on a felony child abuse charge in 2015. It is not clear why he was in court Tuesday.

Patterson played for five teams in nine NFL seasons, making 20 career starts. He failed to show for one of the Jets’ preseason games in 2014, which led to his suspension and his release. He never played again.

Suddenly, the possibility of losing his job in the Oakland starting lineup is the least of Sean Smith‘s concerns.

Via A.J. Perez of USA Today, Smith has been charged with felony assault and felony battery with serious bodily injury. He allegedly “beat and then stomped” the head of his sister’s boyfriend on July 4.

Smith faces up to seven years in prison. His first court date is set for September 29.

He instantly becomes a candidate to be placed on paid leave, a discretionary device that the NFL adopted three years ago as a way to remove from play anyone who is facing serious charges that have not yet been resolved by the court system.

“We are looking into the matter to understand the facts,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told PFT by email on Thursday night.

Giants T Michael Bowie charged with domestic violence

Tackle Michael Bowie will not be traveling with the Giants to Cleveland for Monday night’s game against the Browns due to a domestic violence charge in Oklahoma.

The Tulsa World reports that court records show that Bowie faces one count of domestic assault and battery and two counts of malicious injury to property under $1,000. He has a warrant out for his arrest as of Saturday.

Tulsa County Assistant District Attorney Kenneth Elmore said that reports on the matter indicate that Bowie and his girlfriend argued about financial issues and things escalated to the physical realm when the woman made a comment about Bowie’s mother. Bowie is accused of grabbing his girlfriend by the neck and throwing her to the ground before breaking two televisions. He’s also accused of punching a hole in her wall.

The Giants announced that they found out about Bowie’s situation on Saturday and that Bowie will not make the trip. The team also said they notified NFL security. These are just charges at this point, but that alone may be enough to cost Bowie his spot on the roster given Bowie’s low status on the depth chart at this point.

Dante Fowler charged with three misdemeanors due to July incident

Jaguars defensive end Dante Fowler is set to play in his first regular season game of the year on September 10 and he has a court date set for the next day.

Fowler was arrested in July after an incident in an apartment complex parking lot. NFL.com reports that he was formally charged with three misdemeanors— battery, criminal mischief and petit theft — earlier this month and that an arraignment is scheduled in Clearwater, Florida a day after the Jaguars open the season against the Texans.

Fowler is accused of hitting a man after an exchange of words, stepping on his glasses and then throwing a bag of groceries the man was carrying into a lake.

If convicted on all counts, Fowler could face up to a year in jail and is subject to league discipline. Fowler, who has had other off-field trouble, apologized and is “learning and growing” as a person a short time after he was arrested.
