Under the leadership of the International Committee, the NFL announced Tuesday that four new International Home Marketing Areas (IHMA) have been approved with the Los Angeles Rams adding New Zealand as their fourth IHMA and the Philadelphia Eagles granted access to Australia, New Zealand, and Ghana -- the first NFL club to enter a market in Africa.
The expanded program now includes 19 teams granted access to 30 International Home Marketing Areas across 10 different countries.
The International HMA initiative, which launched in January of this year, grants NFL clubs access to international territories for marketing, fan engagement and commercialization as part of an important, long-term, strategic effort to enable clubs to build their global brands while driving NFL fan growth internationally.
“We’ve seen great momentum since teams began entering their markets earlier this year,” said Peter O’Reilly, NFL executive vice president, club business and league events. “From launching social media accounts, to hosting in-market events, to announcing draft picks from locations around the world, clubs are creating moments to really engage and energize our international fanbase. We look forward to seeing what the Eagles and Rams have planned for their new markets.”
Ten clubs leveraged Day 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft to highlight their international marketing efforts by announcing picks from iconic locations within their International HMAs. These announcements ranged from Najee Harris of the Pittsburgh Steelers announcing a selection from Mexico City’s Terraza Homework and Brazilian soccer player Felipe Luis announcing a Miami Dolphins pick from the base of the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, to the Jacksonville Jaguars (Wembley Stadium in London), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (FC Bayern Munich Stadium in Munich) and Carolina Panthers (Eintracht Frankfurt Stadium in Frankfurt) all making selections from key international stadiums that will host future NFL games. Along with the remote picks, several other clubs hosted in-market watch parties, youth football activations and influencer events to build excitement for the draft in their new markets.
Australia, New Zealand, and Ghana are key emerging markets for the NFL. The league recently appointedCharlotte Offord as General Manager, NFL Australia, to drive business in Australia and New Zealand. Also, in June, the NFL will host its first events in Africa, including current NFL players and legends on-site at a developmental camp and fan event in Ghana. Full details to be announced at a later date.
The Eagles and Rams can begin to activate in their newly awarded market(s) on June 1, 2022.
Clubs may submit future proposals for International Committee review annually each spring.

Idk know about you but having assigned areas internationally and having the NFL feels very strange and cringey to me, but for some reason I put my finger in the exact reason.

I feel the same way.
What do these designations actually mean?
The teams can market themselves in those countries whilst others can't?
Rams are playing this smart if so.
China, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico. Big potential markets though.
But the China time difference is a killer

Not sure if this needs it's own thread or not so just put it here for the time being. Mods, feel free to move it you see fit.

This appeared in the local paper this morning (subscription only unfortunately) so I thought I would get thoughts from the group. It appears, if the mooted schedule is correct, that it will be a pre-season game so it loses a bit of lustre for Rams fans down here as none of the 'big Boys' will play but still an opportunity to see our Rams live.

Interesting that Nick Scott is seen as the player to do the promotional tour. maybe a bigger role this year with the team is locked in???

Could one of the world’s most famous sporting franchises be coming to Australia?
News Corp can reveal senior US officials are discussing the possibility that the world-renowned Dallas Cowboys play an historic NFL game in Australia in 2024.
The Cowboys — known as America’s Team — are being touted as a possible opponent for the Los Angeles Rams, who continue to build strong links with the Australian sporting landscape.
A match between these two iconic clubs would pit gun quarterback Dak Prescott (Cowboys) against Matthew Stafford (Rams).

And in a further show of LA’s desire to crack the Australian market, the Rams will send safety Nick Scott to Sydney and Melbourne in mid-June for a promotional tour.
Scott will be accompanied by a senior Rams official.
News Corp reported on May 19 that the NFL was pushing into Australia and that speculation was increasing about the Rams playing a game in Sydney, possibly in August 2024.
Top-level talks are underway in America about their opponents being Dallas. The game hasn’t been formally announced, although behind-the-scenes meetings and discussions are progressing.
The NFL has issued the LA Rams International Home Markets status in Australia, China and Mexico, with all 32 franchises told to expand the game overseas.
A match-up between Dallas and LA – the reigning Super Bowl champions – would be among the biggest sporting events ever held in Australia.
It is still unknown whether the game, if it proceeded, would be a regular-season match or an exhibition.
NSW Government, including Destinations NSW, has expressed a desire to lure an NFL game to Australia. Radio station SEN has been engaged to help promote the Rams in Australia.
There is also a push from several private consortiums in Australia to have a Pro Bowl played in Sydney.

Some of Sydney’s best-known movers and shakers, including Venues NSW chairman Tony Shepherd and businessman Justin Hemmes, attended this year’s Super Bowl in LA.
A Cowboys-Rams game would almost certainly be played at the 82,500-seat Accor Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park.
One well-placed source said: “The NFL view Australia as a really viable market in terms of merchandise, audience and also players. There is huge interest from the NSW Government to bring an NFL game here.”
An early Sunday afternoon match in Sydney would be beamed back to the US at ratings-friendly timeslot on Saturday night.
News Corp revealed in May that four NFL officials flew to Sydney to inspect sporting venues and meet with destinations NSW and Venues NSW.
NFL management will establish an office in Sydney, which is expected to open in October.

Just last month, NSW Sports and Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres said: “We would welcome the NFL to Sydney with open arms if they are interested in bringing a match here.
“We want Sydney to be the events capital of the Asia Pacific and we are always looking to host the very best events and sporting fixtures in our world class stadium infrastructure.”

@Ramrocket that'll be great except we lose a home game. It would be another warm weather game for the Rams tho.

This will have to be a preseason game if the integrity of the league is to be even believed going forward.

@FaulkSF, I believe it will be a preseason game if they are talking an August timeline.

I’ll still be 1st in line for tickets but know that there is very little likelihood of seeing any of the stars play.

If it's preseason, so much for the warm weather game!

Did you go to the Broncos v Chargers preseason game?

That anz stadium was an awful place to watch it. Hopefully this one will be at the new stadium at the old sfs stadium site, custom built for football.

No, didn’t make that one. In all honesty, I’d only make the effort to see a preseason game if the Rams we’re playing. Have to agree that ANZ Stadium is a pig of a place to watch sport. SFS would be the logical choice but the dollars will drive this deal.
