I'm absolutely terrified of heights. It's so bad that I can't even look at a view from a window.
How are you on planes looking out the window? I'm horribly afraid of heights but have no problems in planes, just wondering if that effects others with height fears.

I've only flown once and that was on my way to basic. The height didn't bother me. Now this was in 05. Everyone was still scared of terrorist threats then. I was freaking out about everyone on board. Absolutely terrifying

I'm on board with many of you; heights. If I'm near the top of a large building and they have those windows that go from the ceiling to the ground, I won't even get close to it.

I haven't flown, but I hate the idea of flying. You can tell me that it's statistically safer than driving a car all you want, but the only time you hear about a plane crash it makes national news.

Also, I don't mind swimming as long as I'm above the surface. It's not that big of a fear, but I don't like being underwater for more then 10+ seconds.

Wasps and hornets irritate the hell out of me. I've been stung too many times by wasps mowing the yard.

As of now, those are probably my biggest fears.

I used to be afraid of public speaking and still am to a degree, but I was still able to teach classes to the military and after doing it a bit I eased up. Still was always nervous but just kept thinking if I was one of the students, I really wouldn't care that much about the teacher and jushit any crap over with. And also I know more than then on the subject. It's really all about relating to them. Once you zone in on that it becomes a lot easier.

I was always afraid of flying stinging insects, but my fears were truly amplified when at around age 10, at my mom's friends farm in Sumter County FL, a wasp landed and got stuck on my sock and strong me twice, and my mom freaked out, and not in a good way because I couldn't swallow the benadryl and she was embarrassed. Really a crappy moment. Stung twice and my mom was being an icehole cause I was embarrassing her. freaking wasps!
Wow typos galore lol

I'm not sure, actually. I can look at the cloud cover, but any other view scares the absolute hell out of me.

So if there are no clouds it's not good for you? U ask cause I love flying in planes and have never had any issues with it. Just trying to understand I guess

There's usually clouds when the plane is at the high point. I can look at clouds because I'm not seeing the ground. Looking down at the ground makes me physically ill, though.

Would the fear of failure qualify in this discussion?

Because that is really my one and only fear

And being arrested

I don't think I have a fear of heights, per se', because I was a roofer for about 5 years when I was younger. Worked on a lot of pitched roofs two or three stories high. But when I'm on a high rise building (20-40 stories), and look over the edge, I can't take it. Scares the shit out of me. I guess because I felt I could fall off of a 2 or 3 story house and make it. But falling off a roof from 20-40 stories up is a done deal. So I guess it's just a fear of falling to my death.

Doesn't help that at least once a month I have one of those dreams where I fall off of something really high and know that the end is coming. I usually close my eyes (in my dream) and wait for it to happen. Funny thing is, when I resign myself to my fate (in my dream), a kind of peace comes over me. It's really weird.

That's it with me and heights. Am I safe or not?

Okay... I have another and it's pretty mushy. Be nice.

I have a fear of being old without my wife. I love her so much. I get scared of the thought without her.

There goes my tough guy image, in my own mind anyway. :sneaky:

But, I am serious. This is a fear I have.

What the freak is that thing?

We should get rid of them right away.
I always called 'em tomato bugs. Give me the flippin' Willy's as well. Spiders, snakes and other insects, not so much.

Heights and water - no issues. Spelunking TERRIFIES me. Can't even watch it on TV. Those tunnel rats in Vietnam?... just shoot me, give me a dishonorable discharge, whatever - I ain't goin' down that tunnel. Even those scenes in the Great Escape freaked me out.

@Juggs it sounds like you have batophobia, typically it's a fear of tall buildings and the sensation that they may fall down.

Even looking at this is mildly uncomfortable.

centipedes,
I idea of getting bit by a "Centipede" Scares the Crap out of me!!
Here's why, when I was in Viet Nam I was bitten by one "12 inches Long"! My hand swelled up like a huge Grapefruit, and The Corpsman couldn't give me anything for the pain because it would have acted like a poison in my system! I suffered in pain!! That was 51 years ago, and I still Cringe at the thought of it!
