More Support For St. Louis Rams’ Brian Quick In 2013
Another week, another story of support for the St. Louis Rams’ other sophomore wide receiver, Brian Quick. As of now, Quick is penciled in as the starter on the depth chart, although no one is certain how the receiver rotation will pan out by the start of the season.

Last season, as expected, Quick saw limited time on the field, taking his time learning the speed of the game and acclimating to “big boy” football after playing college ball at the small-school, Appalachian State. He played only 187 total offensive snaps in 2012, with a season-high of 25 snaps in the blowout loss against the New England Patriots. Quick did receive more playing time as the season drudged on, after seeing only six total plays in the first three games of his career, including being deactivated in Week 3 against the Bears. He averaged roughly 14 plays per game after the Danny Amendola injury against the Cardinals in Week 5, including 87% of this receiving yards, 90% of his catches, and both of his touchdown catches.

This season they will expect much more from the hopefully-rising star. Tony Softli gave his brief recap of Quick at camp so far this offseason, all of it being good news. Bleacher Report posted their position on Brian Quick as a “breakout” player a couple of weeks ago. Now, Sports Illustrated’s Chris Burke has jumped on the bandwagon…

Burke recently posted his list of 10 players from the 2012 class that he believes are destined for a “breakout” season in their sophomore campaign. There are actually a fair number of receivers on the list, including the 49ers’ A.J. Jenkins and the Bears’ Alshon Jeffery. If you scroll close to the bottom, you will get this little nugget about Quick…

Quick currently holds a starting job in St. Louis, despite catching a mere 11 balls last season and the franchise nabbing both Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey in the draft. If nothing else, the Rams’ commitment to improving their passing attack should play to Quick’s benefit — as could the arrivals of Austin and tight end Jared Cook, both players capable of drawing a defense’s attention, thereby freeing up more space outside for Quick. -Chris Burke on Brian Quick

Not exactly a glowing endorsement, but an endorsement nonetheless! While the content might be limited, the general idea is spot on, and should set Brian Quick up for major success in 2013, assuming he is on the field. Jared Cook, Tavon Austin, and Chris Givens are all humongous mismatched in their own right; whether that be with their size, quickness and elusiveness, pure speed, or some combination of the three. Each naturally demands a sizable amount of attention from the defense, which should, theoretically, give Brian Quick more opportunities in one-on-one coverage or against a soft zone. This mismatch-based offense will benefit whoever is lineup up on the outside next season. With natural size and athleticism, a year of experience under his belt, and more opportunity, it is easy to see why Quick is getting so much support and attention from around the league.

Really gotta hope BQ gets it this year. His size and strength could be huge for us. Having a couple speedsters on the field at all times along with a potentially VERY good TE duo and a tall, strong WR that can jump? I also think our OL will be significantly stronger and will create some actual holes to run through AND give Sam a cleaner pocket. Can we just get this damn season started? :spz:

I can see an interesting Redzone package:

Quick and Cook lined up out wide, Austin in the slot/bacfield, Kendricks on the line, Pettis somewhere

Or even Austin in the backfield with Givens/Pettis in the slot. Pretty scary - I'd say.

Bailey could also be a redzone option that they stick in. Either way, we're going to have a lot more targets for the redzone next year.. Last year other than Gibson and Pettis we really didn't have much... Amendola a little when he was healthy, and Kendricks wasn't bad but not good enough to get it done alone.

The Rams have been pretty awful in the redzone the last few years, I think our biggest improvement will be there.

Pettis is the man in the red zone. He has been clutch his whole career.

And he gets open in there.

No idea who this guy or this site is, but... <a class="postlink" href="http://rotoviz.com/index.php/2013/03/numbers-breakdown-are-we-overlooking-brian-quicks-star-potential/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://rotoviz.com/index.php/2013/03/nu ... potential/</a>

Why did I ignore Brian Quick when he got drafted with the #33 pick in last year’s draft? Was it because I was too infatuated with A.J. Jenkins to notice anything else? Was it because players from non-BCS schools have a harder time sticking? Is it because nothing about the Rams has gotten me fired up in a decade?

Whatever the case, a recent article by Bryan Fontaine caused me to take a second look. Because target data isn’t readily available for FCS guys, I had to do some digging. What I found leads me to believe that Quick, a second year player from Appalachian State, could have the highest upside among class-of-2012 wide receivers.

What immediately stands out about Quick is his speed. The guy weighs 220 lbs and ran a 4.5 second forty yard dash. Unless your name is Julio Jones, Calvin Johnson, or Vincent Jackson, you have almost no business being that big and running that fast. More than that, he proved to be agile for his size, posting an agility score on par with Brandon Marshall and Jordy Nelson.

More than just physical attributes, Quick has the production to hang with Marshall and Nelson.

Yards per Target: Above 10 yards is the goal.

Market Share of Yards: Above 30% is the goal.

Market Share of Touchdowns: Above 40% is the goal.

Red Zone Touchdown rate: Above 35% is the goal.

People love to throw around the term ‘upside’. Here’s the way I like to think about it: are a player’s numbers trending upward as he heads to the NFL, or did he hit a ceiling? When it comes to Brian Quick, not only does he have outstanding physical attributes, but he also displayed growth across the board in his final college season indicating that there’s room for growth in the NFL.

Put it together, folks. We’ve got premium physical attributes, upward trending numbers, promising rookie season use, and one of the best quarterback prospects of the last 15 years throwing him the ball. If Brandon Gibson leaves in free agency, Quick becomes an every down player. If you’re drafting for 2013, Brian Quick makes a perfect late-round lottery pick. If you’re in a dynasty league, NOW is the time to acquire him. He and Sam Bradford will punish defenses for years to come.

Not sure what that site is, or who runs it, but I like their/his style...

I like AP in pay dirt territory. AP has quick-twitch arms & hands that allows him to react to deflections with great speed and smoothness than many receivers I have seen. Still, there are times a receiver has to go up and outmuscle a defender for the rock. I prefer Brian, Jared, or Lance Kendricks over AP in the situations. Of course, I wouldn't mind having AP floating nearby in case the ball ricochets off the primary receiver's (or the defender's) hands.
