That was a football play.
You want to get him for helmet to helmet? Ok.
No issue with that.
The block itself was a good play, intent and execution (minus the h 2 h). He didn't clip him, he didn't go into his knees etc.
having a TE crack down on a DE for example doesn't look at that much different if the DE isent paying attention. A pulling G on a trap can look similiar. Are those "dirty" plays too?
When helping with my buddies youth team and we are having the TE set the edge against a DE or LB that's how we teach it. You don't go low, don't go to the head, don't go into the back and then important thing is to make the block, don't leave your feet to make the block. ..seal the edge, not hit hard. Getting in his way can be just as effective and leveling the guy. But, if there is a clean shot there take it. If he isent paying attention, hammer him. It's the game. End of story.
I get and support the efforts toward safety.
But, it is not a seven on seven flag football passing league. At least not yet.

Juju left his feet and went high at the guys head. Intention was very clear with how he stood over him after the shot.

I believe the suspension speaks volumes on this.

Like I said helmet to helmet.
Outside of that don't care.
So it goes.

He didn't leave his feet..as a matter of fact he planted his left foot and hit him with his right toes still on ground

He did not leave his feet. I posted a screen shot of contact. His left foot is flat and his right foot is in a toe drag. It was a violent hit but 100% legal. The taunting wasn't and was unnecessary.

His suspension is idiotic, he got the same as Gronk who committed assault with a weapon on a defenseless player. JuJu legally hit a guy who was still involved in an active play right next to a ball carrier.

Yeah I was just gonna post about this. Pretty disturbing to watch. I hope he’s okay but let’s be honest that was probably the end of his career. Such a shame.
doubtful....I bet he plays in a couple weeks
Well he was able move his legs off one another and straighten his leg out, so hopefully its just a pinched nerve.
thought I saw some twitching.....trying to straighten his foot out....just a bit.
I think that was just momentum of his legs after he rolled over.
it rolled off...then seemed to ever so slightly move....which is great...because if he "felt" discomfort...he has feeling....which is what you look for.
what is it with nfl players using their heads to make hits?
game moves very fast...probably unavoidable to have helmets collide, or have helmet first contact.

Brutal game...I wondered how would they play after this incident...it took the Steeler and Bengals a few minutes...but this was a really good, throwback type of game. Hard hitting....Like it always is. Especially in the 4th quarter.

Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier has undergone surgery as he continues treatment for a serious spinal cord injury suffered on Monday night.

The Steelers announced today that Shazier had the surgery last night.

“[University of Pittsburgh Medical Center] neurosurgeons and Pittsburgh Steelers team physicians Drs. David Okonkwo and Joseph Maroon performed spinal stabilization surgery on Ryan Shazier to address his spinal injury,” the Steelers’ statement said.

Shazier was taken off the field on a stretcher and brought to a Cincinnati hospital. He was transferred to a Pittsburgh hospital before last night’s surgery.

The Steelers have not released any information about whether Shazier has any movement in his legs, or whether he is expected to make a recovery.

It was text book tackle that didnt deserve a flag.
His taunting was inexcusable though, no issue with a flag there

They don't suspend for taunting.

Stills show nothing in a moving football game. This is just like people trying to use stills to liken Jared Goffs slide the same week to the one where Flacco nearly got decapitated by Kiko Alonso.

I can do the same thing taking a random still, you can see Burfict's head bounce back before the shoulder ever even makes contact if you actually watch the video. You can actually hear a distinct crack from contact between the two helmets on the play as well. Zero need for him to drop his helmet and essentially jump into the guy like that.

Hines Ward made a living off pulling blindside crap like this, and he is one of the reasons it is illegal now. Dude would only throw a block when the other guy wasn't looking.

Even in your still his head isn't anywhere near VB's head. You can't lead with the crown of your helmet, or lead with your head. Clearly JuJu led with his shoulder. Look at the gifs and videos posted in this thread. No where do I see JuJu LEADING with his helmet.

Hearing the crack? Pads can crack and make noise, too.

This was more of the Steelers finally shutting up Vontaze Burfict. Like Antonio Brown said......ITS CALLED KAARRRRMMMAAAA.

Also I love how people bring up Hines Ward yet Vontaze Burfict is the poster child of dirty play.

I just hope he can walk again. I’m not sure I’d want to play again if he were medically cleared and got back to 100%

Ryan Shazier making progress in recovery, father says

Ryan Shazier's father says the Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker continues to make progress in his recovery from a spinal injury he suffered last month.

Speaking to WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh, Vernon Shazier said Ryan has feeling in his legs, but declined to comment on whether Ryan was walking again.

"He's much better," Vernon said, "but we've agreed to keep his progress private until he's ready to share where he's at."

Shazier was hospitalized for two days in Cincinnati after suffering a spinal injury while trying to make a tackle against the Bengals during the first quarter of the Steelers' win on Dec. 4. Shazier was transferred to a local hospital before being transferred to Pittsburgh two days later. He has been undergoing rehab since having spine stabilization surgery on Dec. 7.

"He's making progress daily," Vernon said. "He's a long ways from where he was Monday night when he was laying on the field."

Ryan Shazier attended the Steelers-Patriots game at Heinz Field on Dec. 17 and also was in attendance for the team's regular-season finale against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Asked whether he believed if his son would play football again, Vernon responded, "I Shalieve. I Shalieve."

Kevin Colbert confirms Ryan Shazier won’t play in 2018

Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier has made progress since having spinal surgery in the wake of the injury he suffered against the Bengals during the regular season, but there’s been no sign that he’ll be able to resume his playing career in 2018.

On Wednesday, Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert confirmed that isn’t going to change. Colbert said in Indianapolis that Shazier will not play at all next season.

Shazier’s $8.7 million salary for the upcoming season is guaranteed against injury under the terms of the fifth-year option that the team exercised before last season. Colbert said that Shazier will remain with the organization as he continues his rehab and will have some off-field role with the team during that process.

Shazier said recently that he still plans on returning to the field, although he has yet to progress to walking on his own and that’s one of several milestones he’d have to hit before there’s a chance of that happening.

That's awesome that he at least gets that 5th year option money no matter what. That's more than enough to ensure a good life going forward.

If he isn't walking on his own I think playing again is a pipe dream at this point. That's too bad but hopefully he can recover enough to live a normal life with millions of dollars at his disposal.
