So... is he for real?

Gardner Minshew is off to greatest start for any rookie quarterback in NFL history
Minshew has the highest completion percentage and passer rating for any rookie quarterback through three games

The legend of Gardner Minshew continues to grow in Jacksonville. Not only is Minshew setting franchise records for the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he's shattering NFL marks for rookie quarterbacks in the process. Through three games, no rookie quarterback has gotten off to a better start in the 100-year history of the NFL than Minshew. Per NFL Research, Minshew has the highest completion percentage (73.8) and the highest passer rating (110.6) through three games (minimum 30 pass attempts). Minshew set the marks with his performance in the Jaguars' 20-7 win over the Tennessee Titans Thursday night, finishing 20-for-30 (66.7 completion percentage) for 204 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions for a 108.2 passer rating. Minshew has completed 65-of-88 passes for 679 yards, five touchdowns, with just one interception -- averaging 7.9 yards per attempt.

There is a cautionary tale toward Minshew's torrid start. The players he's ahead of struggled throughout the majority of their careers. Rick Mirer previously held the record for completion percentage through three games at 70.9 percent (1993), but he finished the season completing 56.4 percent of his passes for 12 touchdowns, 17 interceptions, and a 67.0 passer rating. Mirer, the No. 2 overall pick in the 1993 draft, completed 53.4 percent of his passes in four years with the Seattle Seahawks with 41 touchdowns, 56 interceptions and a 65.7 rating.

Did Gardner Minshew give Jalen Ramsey a reason to stay in Jacksonville? Are the Titans hurtling towards a quarterback change? The Pick Six Podcast crew breaks it down in the player below. Subscribe here for our daily NFL pod!

Trent Edwards is third on the list, having a 70.5 completion percentage through three games. Edwards completed 60.9 percent of his passes for 25 touchdowns, 27 interceptions and a 76.8 rating in four seasons in Buffalo. Jon Kitna, fourth on the list (68.9 percent), completed 60.3 percent of his passes with 169 touchdowns, 165 interceptions and a 77.4 passer rating in 14 NFL seasons.

Minshew beat Marcus Mariota's record for highest passer rating through three games. Mariota has completed 63.9 percent of his passes for 73 touchdowns, 42 interceptions and an 89.9 passer rating in five seasons with the Tennessee Titans. Ed Rubbert was a replacement player during the 1987 strike, playing just three games for the Washington Redskins and finishing with a 110.2 passer rating in leading the Redskins to a 3-0 record. He never played in the NFL again.

Fourth on the list is Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, who has completed 63.8 percent of his passes for 74 touchdowns, 30 interceptions and a 92.3 passer rating in 42 games, instrumental toward the Eagles winning a Super Bowl two years ago.

While Minshew has a long way to go before his career is settled, getting off to an incredible start doesn't indicate future success in the NFL.

It depends on what you mean "for real." I actually have been pleasantly surprised. He reminds me of Keenum in terms of physical talent, play style, and confidence. But his ball placement is better than Keenum's, especially deep. I don't think he's the next Drew Brees or Tom Brady, but the Jags might just have themselves a starting QB. We'll have to see how he does when teams adjust to him. He kind of reminds me of a young Andy Dalton.

I think he's gonna end up a starter. He's got some swag to him, some leadership those others don't have. Competitive fire and makes dudes better. That's hard to find.

I'm rooting for him. He's a likable guy. He's got good character, he's a little goofy and he's intelligent. Plus the pornstache is a great touch. People love him wherever he goes to. The Jags deserve to have something go right. They've suffered long enough.

I think he is 50% Ryan Fitzpatrick and 50% Nick Foles.

Whatever that ends up as in the NFL I have no idea.

He said some good things about Foles in his postgame interview, and was very mature, offered veteran replies to questions about his play. Impressed with him as a pro so far.

But I decided to watch highlights of his 2 games, and his college highlights, and you know what, this kid belongs on an NFL field. I'm no expert as you guys know, but there's almost no drop off between his PAC10 leading play and his JAX play, throwing WRs open, laying dimes, despite being a backup rookie QB thrown into the first game of the season. Per vids I watched some were doubting he would succeed because the college & pro systems he played in were so different, and normally that's true but here he is, looking virtually like the same player he was in college, with just one offseason to adjust to a new team & system.

Throw in all the quirky stuff and this kid is gonna be a star - he's already marketable and made for TV, and has every one in JAX buying fake staches. If he handles adversity well and doesn't go all Cam weird then he may last a while in this league.

I've only seen the highlights form the Thursday night game versus the Titans and IMO he, as @JonRam99 said "belongs" on an NFL field.

The quick way to study a QB is to watch the cleats and helmet.

I’m sure defenses will catch up to him soon, but he throws very accurate and catchable passes. I think that will help him stay moderately successful while defenses get more tape on him and learn his tendencies. It will all be about the adjustments Minshew makes from there. I’m rooting for the guy though. I like what I’ve seen from him and think he can be successful.

His touch is excellent especially on longer passes, he drops the biscuit in the basket nicely.

I watched him play at Washington State one game. He played pretty well and beat my beloved Ducks last year. He seems to be a scrapper. He looked 20 years older than his college teammates IMO. Who knows what he will do in the “Not For Long” game. He def has that 1970s porn look which cracks me up.

I kinda hope he's successful, it would be nice to have a real personality at star position who wasn't a complete screw up like AB or a sour puss like Rodgers.

First thing I thought of was the movie "New in Town" with Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick, Jr. When she first gets to Minnesota, she's asked if she's a scrapper (as in making scrap books).

I know he's gonna want a scrapbook of this start to the season, that's for sure...

Minneshaw starting for Jacksonville, Luke Falk starting for the Jets, current WSU QB throws 9 TD passes in a game... maybe Mike leach is the next college to pro HC?
I’m kidding but who knows
