How has Owens helped the Cowboys, Bills, Bengals become a contender when he was in NFL shape?

I thought it sounded more like they thought Seattle needs to be a division contender this year, since it's Pete Caroll's 3rd year. I mean, they've already been to (and won) a playoff game under his regime, but that was their point.
