Can anyone else name a time when a ref threw a flag in a situation like this?

It's not about the refs..........but they try hard to make it "their game".

...The way it looks right now, my bet is that two players from Seattle will be sitting this week because they couldn't control themselves in Jacksonville...

Ummm. I think you're forgetting this is the SEAHAWKS you're talking about. Let me remind you how this works: Rams need Eagles to beat Hawks, Hawks get EVERY 50/50 call and walk away with what is a tainted victory in my view. Eagles come to LA, get EVERY 50/50 call (and more) and walk away with tainted victory. Rams go to Seattle, and...you get the picture. NO WAY they get a suspension. Mark my words. Truly hoping I'm wrong.

I knew we were in for it as soon as the PI and the BS holding call on Sullivan when Gurley broke off his next big run on 2nd drive. I just said, yep, this thing is over before it starts. Then I proceeded to watch our DL being pulled on without any calls, and even a completely fabricated "leverage" call when the ref mistakenly assumed they'd miss that long FG kick so he needed to give them a 1st down.

The other call that irked me was the hit on Goff. Aikman discussed how tough Goff was as he walked back to the sideline after putting his helmet back on, but you think Wilson (add Brady and about every other QB other than Cam Newton) doesn't get a call on that play??? Our QB got his helmet RIPPED OFF HIS HEAD by the other guy's HELMET! This is exactly what the rule is in place for, protecting high hits to the QB. WTF??!!

Really a shame. The NFL wonders about their product and the decline in interest. I think it's pretty DAMN clear.

Rams CB says Trumaine Johnson was flagged for 'talking football' with Alshon Jeffery

One of the biggest storylines from Sunday’s game was the Rams’ lack of discipline. They were flagged seven times for 102 yards, costing themselves valuable yardage on both offense and defense.

One of the biggest calls of the game came in the third quarter when Trumaine Johnson was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after an incompletion to Alshon Jeffery. It was a great play by Johnson, but he briefly stood over Jeffery and appeared to exchange words with the receiver.

The play cost the Rams 15 yards on a crucial third-and-9 from the 33-yard line, meaning the Eagles would have had to attempt a 50-yard field goal if not for the penalty.

Nickell Robey-Coleman came to Johnson’s defense after the game to say he wasn’t even talking trash to Jeffery.

Rams CB Nickell Robey-Coleman, on Trumaine Johnson's penalty: "They weren't even talking trash; they were just talking football and they threw the flag."

That was undoubtedly one of the biggest moments of the game because of the way it shifted the balance. Eight plays and two penalties later, the Eagles scored a touchdown to take a 31-28 lead.

Even Jeffery said after the game that there wasn’t any extra trash talking going on between him and Johnson.

“No, I mean we know each other,” he said. “I mean when he makes a play, he’s going to make some noise. When I make a play, I’m going to make some noise, so it is what it is.”

Fair or not, the Rams cost themselves multiple times with unnecessary penalties. Samson Ebukam was flagged 15 yards for a late hit, which was far worse than Johnson’s infraction. They simply need to be more disciplined despite the fact that Johnson should have never been penalized.

As for Sean McVay’s take on the flag, he says the officials told him Jeffery and Johnson had been going back and forth throughout the game.

“They said that these guys had been talking, going back and forth and there had been some warnings going on and that was the decision that the side judge made and those are things that we have to respect,” he said after the loss.

Initially I had been defending Johnson but if there were warnings he probably should not have said anything. Is there video anywhere? I thought the receiver got in Johnson's face.

I am new to this board. There seems to be a lot of hate towards Johnson. He seems like a pretty damn solid corner to me.

I know what you are talking about. So far this year Keenum has been hit in the head 7 times without a penalty being called. But hell, you brush Rodgers helmet and it's 15 yards. Hand goes across the face mask and doesn't grab anything, 15 yards. Vikings player tackled by the face mask nothing. The refs have really gone down hill the last few years.

Yeah, I try to be as objective as I can... but that one was pretty darned bad.

I agree... if it was a "marquee" QB, it would have been roughing the passer.

Go read the article I posted a few posts above yours. And if you go to the link, there is a video of Johnson and Jeffrey talking to one another after the play, and it really doesn't look like it is anything contentious.

Alshon started it getting in Tru's grill, by your logic he should have gotten a flag not TruJo. The ref's sucked beyond belief.
Try was standing over him talking it up. He looked like the aggressor of course he’s going to get called. I understand you want our players to do whatever they want but that’s not the case in reality. That was stupid asf for him to do.

Read the article I posted above. NRC said they were just talking football, and even Jeffrey himself said there was no trash talking going on. Are we going to justify throwing a flag against Tru for merely talking to another player?

Let your play do the talking....

Pretty much. Rams need to learn to point to the scoreboard. Tru was pi$$ed from getting worked over and I get it, really it goes back to him being a #2 CB playing the top matchup, but for the love of F these guys in general need to get the Jeff Fisher out.

McVay's team is not going to be an emotional one. He's trying to build a pro group that takes care of business and there's no room for players pulling selfish and stupid BS at key moments in the game. That's losing football.

All that aside, though, McVay also needs to quit accepting everything when he knows his team got EFFED by the refs. Fire off a bit man, and take a fine. Call it what it is FFS. Bring league attention to it. Fisher used to the do the same BS with his association with the competition committee and I hated it as much then as I do now. Quit clappin along with bad refereeing and bring attention to it then pay your fine and move on.

You can't control what the other player is saying. You can't control what the Ref is going to do. As a player, you can control what you do. If you can't do that, you shouldn't be on the field. I have seen at least 3 call this year that changed the score of a game because some player couldn't control himself. It never ends well. The way it looks right now, my bet is that two players from Seattle will be sitting this week because they couldn't control themselves in Jacksonville. Now that benefits the Rams. But it did nothing for them in the Jags game. Just like Tru did nothing positive for the Rams with the call. If your going to say something, say while walking away.
Talk shit at the line of scrimmage. Nobody cares, not at the end of a play when all eyes are on you.

So, as I read this, I'm thinking he'd be as guilty as the players if he raised a stink and got a penalty (and fine). See what happened to Peyton when he made a stink? Cost them that game.

Lead by example... brush it off and become more determined!

Yes so that means there shouldn’t be a penalty right?
Well unfortunately the world we live in is based on 90% appearance and the appearance was he was taunting him. He was up close and personal and should know better than that. He’s not a rookie. It doesn’t matter if he’s giving him the recipe of cherry merry muffins... do it farther away and not standing over him.
