Scouts Inc.'s Todd McShay has a fourth-round grade on Fresno State QB Derek Carr.
McShay also labeled Carr the biggest risk of the quarterback group since people are mentioning him in the first-round. "I don't see it," McShay began. "60 percent of his throws within five yards of the line of scrimmage, struggles against pressure and that tape I watched against USC, that is not a quarterback, to me, that looks like a potential starter in the league." It can be difficult to separate quarterbacks from systems, and Carr's inability to fire in the face of a pass rush has been well documented in the form of poor balance, but we still expect him to be, at worst, an early second-round pick.

And Blaine Gabbert. McShay is a fraud.
Did somebody say Jimmy Clausen?

Anyway, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that McShay is absolutely wrong about this one. I don't see how you can watch Carr and Manziel play back to back, and honestly say that Manziel is the better passer. He has a very weak arm in comparison, and was bailed out on a lot of poorly placed balls and bad decisions by Mike Evans.

From what I have heard on Carr... He is a thrower and not a passer.

This is how it was explained to me...

"I'm only interested in passers. His accuracy is inconsistent at best on every level and he shows no patience or pocket awareness. Almost every college QB needs work on their mechanics but Carr doesn't even have a foundation to build on."

Don't know who said that, but it's BS. Carr has very good mechanics, his problem was that he panicked a little when things broke down around him in the pocket, but it's far from Gabbert-esque. I'd say his pocket presence is better than Manziel's, it's just that Manziel always had elite OTs to keep pressure away from him on the edges and give him a ton of time and room to run around in.

Better than Manziel isn't saying much.

4th round grade?

Sounds like a perfect pick for Cleveland in the 1st, somewhere!

He might grade out as a 4th. That's fair for him. But he will go much higher. Grades and draft position is not mutually inclusive with QB's.

I agree. I think a 4th round grade is fair - he might become a good starter in this league - but he probably wont. Someone will take a punt on him though because the need for a QB is so high and he does have a good arm.

I'd agree with McShay here. Probably 3rd or 4th round at best. But we all know he's getting picked well before that.

So since he grades him as a 4th round pick... So that means he'll be the best QB in this draft class! You paying attention, Texans?

In all honestly that grade kinda shocks me. I would love to have him in the 3rd round tho, he'd be someone we could develop in case Bradford gets hurt.
