More than a few people have the Rams snagging Johnny Manziel in the upcoming draft. This includes ESPN analyst Todd McShay, who explains his reasoning in the above audio. Keeping in mind the “Sam’s our man.” company line thrown out by the Rams at every opportunity, don’t think Johnny Football would come without controversy. Kevin Wheeler talks about it.

The closer the draft gets, the more outlandish peoples thought processes seem to become. How is it that we suddenly went from Bradford being reported by Fisher as our lock at starting QB to having a spontaneous interest in Manziel and being the best fit for Teddy Bridgewater?

Sorry ESPN, you are just stirring an empty pot...

The only controversy would be the riot that drafting Manziel would cause. That and the PD board being trolled even harder. Which actually is possible.

Is there any evidence that we're even considering one of the top QBs? I get that we worked out Manziel, but if he didn't happen to be in the same place at the same time as Matthews or Evans would we have bothered? Have we even spoken to Bridgewater, Bortles, Carr or any other QB who may have a first round grade?

If a Manziel is drafted at 2 this would be the poorest ran offseason I can remember. First you downgrade the QB position and pass up much better football players at 2. Second by picking Manziel there that means you have zero faith in Bradford. If that's the case you should have traded or cut him early in the process so you could use the cap space to sign a Byrd or Verner to help the team. Manziel at 2 or 13 would be a terrible pick and I'm petrified the rumors are true. Been burnt way too many times.

We already have a Manziel QB controversy, and he's not even on our roster. Imagine the craziness if we DID draft him.

I'm OK with Manziel at 13, but I live in Fort Worth Texas, so I'm a big Manziel fan. I know Saint Louis Sam's fans would barf, if it happened.

Sometimes I wonder if Rams fans are fundamentally different from other football fans. It's a thought that nags me. For example, some fan bases seem totally cool, bring in the Young Gun to compete with the current starter. Jet's fans for instant. Rams fans are extremely loyal. Rams fans tend to be deep thinkers. I know a bunch of Dallas Cowboy fans. We're not like them.

Can anybody honestly say Sam got a fair shake? His best WRs were Mark Clayton, Danny Ammendola, and Danario Alexander. All three get hurt a lot. He has played behind some of the worst lines in the league. He has had to learn 3 different offenses. If you want to ensure your QB will fail, don't protect him, give him very little to throw to, and constantly change the system. Sam has more ability than Manziel. Manziel is more exciting, but give me the pocket passer over exciting every day of the week. In 2013 Sam was finally supposed to have a decent team around him. Problem was they were counting on an entirely new cast of players. Austin was a rookie. Richardson was a change of pace guy. Cook was an underachiever from Tennessee. When the season started we had zero run game and a bad defense. Once we got a run game Sam started to take off. He had 28 TDs to 11 INTs in his last 16 games. Most of those games were with a poor cast of players. Give him some protection, some better weapons and watch the guy develop. He is Matt Ryan without Julio, Roddy, and Tony.

I don't think Tom Brady's situation in NE is in the same conversation (no, wait... Planet!) as Sam's in STL.

To be honest I don't see much controversy, you draft Manziel, you start him, he loses the fans call for Sam to start so you start Sam, Sam loses the fans call for Johnny, you start Johnny.

I don't see the problem, we all know that competition makes you better, that would be the ultimate in compitition.

The only genuine interest the Rams have in Manziel is how much people will be willing to trade to get him.

Competition may make things better, but controversy doesn't. I think this would be full fledge controversy. Stuff that can divide locker rooms.

I would so agree, however I think the Pats have to draft QB's as Brady is what 36 now so they have to look for who will be the next heir apparent as Brady's career is now in it's twilight vs it's dawn. So while I don't expect them drafting a QB would be a controversy I do expect each one is looked at as the next possible future. An is a smart move on their part as if ya can find one now have him sit under Brady for a spell ya just seem like ya come out ahead of the curve.

Sam has never had any competition at the position he has been anointed since day one and the only controversy has been his winless record and going into year 5 of his contract he still is a question mark.
