I thought this might be an excellent thread to let others now about your experiences as a Ram fan. It's okay if you're not interested and someone may even close it but I thought it might be fun so I'll start.

My father became a Ram fan in 1949. He loved college football before that and started cheering for the USC Trojans. He always told me this story. Back in 1949 my dad was saving to buy a car and he would bus around the city or take the RED CARS (Trolley System) He decided to attend the 1949 NFL Championship game between the Rams and Eagles (how appropo). He had a nickel for the bus ride and off to the Coliseum he went with a sandwich and peanuts in a paper bag and a thermos full of hot coffee (my dad never ate stadium or ballpark food and he never drank carbonated beverages. One thing he didn't have was a ticket to the game nor did he have the money for a decent seat. Because of his poor eyesight, my dad always needed a decent seat. He wore coke-bottle glasses and he would always bring his binoculars.

He wasn't having any luck but about 10 minutes before game time, he tapped a guy on his shoulder and asked him if he had an extra seat for the game. The guy turns around and it turns out to be the the famous nightclub singer and actor Danny Thomas, of "Make Room for Daddy" fame though I think the long-running sitcom came later.
"Sure I got a ticket I can give you but how do I know you won't turn around and sell it?"
"I'll walk right in with you and I will be at your side the entire game."

So my dad sat next to Danny Thomas the entire 1949 championship game.

Sidenote: Eagles won 7-0 as their star RB Steve Owen ran roughshod over the Rams all afternoon.

Check out episodes of "Make Room for Daddy" on YouTube.

Great story @JackKirbyFan the younger generation can learn so much from the history and Danny Thomas also founded the St. Jude Foundation, which is the premier foundation to this day!

Must have been late 60's - I was about 7 years old...my dad was watching a game. I asked him,"what's that team with the swirl on their helmet?"
He said, "The Rams"
I said, "That's the team I like" :yess:
Dad was a Giants fan. Whatever.

Later, one of my favorite shows was The Rockford Files. It was pretty cool that Rockford was a Rams fan...even though the real life James Garner was a Raiders fan.

I’ve always said...

I cried through the 70’s .
Drank through the 80’s :dizzy:.
Got married and had kids through the 90’s :grouphug:.
Partied like it’s 1999 in the beginning of the new millennium :yay:.

Been frustrated the past 12 years .

Now things are starting to change for good reasons :).
I suspect the next decade will be a good one to remember.:yess:

My dad was a Rams fan in the 60's. Back in Hawaii, they basically showed Rams, Vikings and Cowboy games back then. Got hooked on the Rams and they were a powerhouse team back in the 70's and most of the 80's, but no Super bowl victory. The Rams went downhill in the 90's. Suffered through 17 straight losses to the forty whiners. (Almost broke my television a few times).

Fast forward to the 1999 Rams. Trent Green was looking like a world beater until he got injured. I though we were cursed for a while. I was puzzled as to why the Rams didn't acquire a QB. "We will rally around Kurt Warner and we will play GOOD football". 800 pound gorilla was lifted off my back.

Suffered through Scott Linehan, Steve Spagnuolo, and Jeff Fisher.

Looks like the good times are rolling again though..... :yay:

I grew up in Pearl City, HI (1970's). The Rams were always on TV on Sunday mornings. I loved watching them more than Saturday morning cartoons. Been a fan ever since.

I just turned 13 and was becoming a Rams fan living in Westlake Village (40 miles or so North of Los Angeles). I had been to one game at the colosseum, but was still young, so it wasn't til 13 when I really started to understand football and become a Rams fan.

So, it's the NFC championship Rams vs. Tampa Bay. I was so excited to watch it on TV. Then my mother decided to ruin my life and said "we're going grocery shopping" at the time of the game. And, my mom sucked. She always took literally 5 or 6 hours to grocery shop. I was so upset.

So, we got to the store. It dawned on me our car (a Pinto...lol) had the radio. I went out to the car, hit the AM button and found the game. I sat in the car in the parking lot and listened to the whole game on the fricking radio! Looking back, I can't believe I did that at thirteen. It's not easy following a game on the radio without seeing it, right? Was stoked the Rams won and were off to their 1st Super Bowl!

And, I did end up getting to watch the Super Bowl (in color) on the TV. Been a Super die hard fan ever since.

I moved later that year to Orange County (El Toro). Surprisingly, the Rams moved to Anaheim that same time and my Dad bought season tickets right from the get go. I went to the very 1st preseason game at Anaheim, and almost every game until they bailed to St. Louis.

One game, at about age 15, I motioned the hot chick walking the "real"ram mascot over to me as to pet the Ram. When she got close, I swung my arm around her and planted her with a kiss..a long one! My Dad thought I was crazy for doing it...but, I had to take my shot.

So many Rams memories...Dickerson, Jim Everett's first game when the crowd went nuts as he entered in the 2nd quarter.

I could go on plenty with many more stories. But, I'll shut up now and look forward to reading more stories from you guys!

I've told my story a couple of times before, But I love telling it!! It was Dec. 16th 1951, My 1st Live game! It was "Scout Day" at the Coliseum. All the Cub Scouts, Boy scouts Girl scouts in the great L.A. area Filled the Visitors side of the Coliseum! ( I was 7 years Old in the Cub Scouts)

I had a Seat 17 rows up on the 50 yard Line. We where Playing the Packers, and had shut-them-out in an earlier game in Green Bay!
On this day we Stomped-on-them-again!!

* Bob Waterfield passed for 5 TD's!
* Ctrazy-Legs Hirsch caught 3 TD passes!
* Deacon Dan Towler rushed 13 time for 102 yards!
( and these are just a few of the High-Lights!)

My 1st Live game 42 to 14.jpg

The Rams crushed them 42-14, and "DaveFan'51" became a Fan for Life!!

Being that there have been several of these threads over the years, I'll just repost one I have already written. Spoiler alert.... Many of you have already read it as I have probably posted it 5 or 6 times now. So just move along - nothing new to see here.

Damn! I just reread that. It was just before we went to the Lou for a celebration of life for Thor Daddy and the season opener against the shecocks. Several of you were there. Just more memories and reasons I am a Rams fan and always will be. Pretty fun reading through the posts leading up to it. I need to find the thread with pictures of the weekend events.

First team I ever rooted for was the Lakers.

I was 5 years old and living in Martinez, CA... east bay in NorCal.

I had just gotten a death bike... this yellow deal with SOLID tires...cuz dad didn't want to bothered filling them up. Ever ridden on hard, solid tires? Yeah, it's only slightly different than riding on the rim...not kidding.

Anyway, I wanted to learn how to ride, but dad (actually step-dad, but he's the man who raised me) wanted to watch the Knicks play basketball. Seeing as he was from Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn. He was also a Dodger fan.

So he won't teach me. I stomp out and get on that bike...and teach myself. Started by pushing myself from carport post to carport post (and they were the really splintery wood, so I got pretty cut up), but I did it. Taught myself to ride.

Came in and said, "I taught myself, cuz I wanted to ride." Dad didn't even look and said, "that's good". So I look at the screen and said, "who are the Knicks playing?" "The Lakers. I hate the Lakers."

I became their number one fan that day.

We moved to LA two years later and my parents bought me some local sports banners for Xmas and I saw the felt banner of the Rams and just knew...THIS team was for me. Same with the Dodgers.

Nolan Cromwell quickly became my favorite player and I always wondered how someone as fat as John Cappelletti could be a running back (kids aren't politically correct). I thought Jack Youngblood was the biggest, toughest man on earth, even bigger and tougher than Mean Joe Greene!!!

Love these nostalgia threads and finding out how we all got here...

I have none left from childhood.

Kills me because I had some nice ones.

Used to have some of those fake batting helmets that we'd wear playing Wiffleball. My favorite of those was my Twins helmet because Rod Carew was my favorite player (and because I wanted to be different and everyone else wore their Dodgers hat).

I still have a bunch of baseball and football cards from I think 1978. My uncle was a long-haul trucker and one Xmas he gave me two CASES of baseball and football cards AND those Tops cases with slots for each team.

Yep, still have those...tucked away... wouldn't know if they were worth $100 total or enough to fix my house.

But I really wish I'd kept those banners nice.

1999 bandwagoner. No one in my family or friends circle rooted for the Rams, except for my mom and of course me.

Still on the wagon. Don't have really interested stories though. I met SJax once, that was pretty cool.
