Watching college game day waiting for Michigan - Michigan State today ( go blue!!!) and They were talking about Jim Harbaugh coming back and leading to the resurgence of Michigan and Lee Corso made a huge sell and reasoning on why Jeff Fisher makes sense for USC. I can't say I disagree with him much... If this season doesn't end in a playoff run, it might be time for us to look elsewhere for a HC. I'm just not sold if Kroenke would get rid of him unless we went south hard this year... Any thoughts?

Personally, I love Fisher as our coach and the team he has built. I wouldn't be happy at all if he was anywhere else but here next year.

That 5 game stretch starting next week is crucial. If we don't get, at the very minimum 3 wins out of that 5, the season is probably over and I'm on board with firing Fisher. We need to see results.

Kroenke wants him to go south.

Oh, you mean in the standings.:).
Seriously, I think he's safe this year. I don't think Stan's the kind of guy who eats a contract early.

Agree 100% and have said that in all of the many fire Fisher threads across Rams fan websites. What we might see is them coming to a mutual agreement to let Fisher out, release Stan of money he would owe Fisher in return for a 5 year no NFL return clause or some such. Or even using USC as a temporary home(sorry I know this isn't the thread for it but reality is it's a possibility).

The pro game is different than the college game. I know it would seem like a dream job for him, former player there and all. But I don't see him leaving his comfort zone in the NFL game for the college game. Too many rules.

Different sport, but on the flip side I remember Jerry Tarkanian who was a long time successful basketball coach in college try his hand in the NBA with San Antonio. Didn't work out and he said it was because the pro level was so much different than the college level.

Jim Harbaugh was a former college coach, so its nothing new for him to return to college.

Fisher to college? have my doubts about that

I think he'd stay in the NFL, and wouldn't have a problem doing so.

meh....I seriously doubt Fishers goes to college....I understand it's a different time and these colleges are paying some serious $$$...But he's in the pros...his team is really built in his (and Snead's) image...

I wonder why would it seem appealing to Lee for Fish to leave St. Lou? why? Hell, we could still play in the post-season...The SC job shoulda went to the guy who's at Washington now (Peters) or the guy who left Utah St. and went to Florida....Not sure who's the up and coming west coast coach now...need a guy with defensive connections, and decent offensive ideas...One is to recruit a QB...Kessler is garbage. Defense shouldn't be this bad...They'll smash ND today, so you can see what I mean...

Last note, why didn't they keep Ogeron??? Dude loved it here...

Agreed. It would set us back if he left, imo.

I don't think so. Fisher does potentially look like one of those coaches who can "build it" but can't "Take the team over the hump."

I have my doubts about him and the offensive side of the ball. Consider his prior teams and his records, and also where things stand at this day in age offensively.

I believe the Kroenke patience and move angle is overplayed. Stan is not a fool. If Fish doesn't win this season there is a very real chance Stan makes a change. As he should. 4 years is plenty of time for a regime to show what it can do. If I'm Stan I remove Fish if the team doesn't win at least 9 games. Even if the team comes out of the bye with a loss to Cleveland I'd strongly consider a change to a coach who can hold the players accountable.

And believe it or not I love Fish. Have defended the guy forever it seems. But I have started to doubt whether he's too soft on the players. Dude needs to prove he can win in year 4 plain and simple.

Re: Fish being at USC... It is very real IMO. He maintains strong connections there so in the event things sour here in year 4 there is a possibility he goes for it and buys his Santa Barbara dream house.

My biggest issue with replacing Fisher, besides the fact that i like him, is that it would almost definitely mean that Gregg Williams leaves...which is not a good thing at all.

Hopefully, we can find a way to keep him.

Fisher doesn't strike me as a college coach. He's figured out how to lead professionals, which is a totally different skill.

Not that he couldn't do it. Just don't see it.

Besides, why?

I so badly want fisher to succeed at the rams. I love his over-sized shirts and his little winks to the camera.
My view is that he'll get a new contract with the rams when this one finishes. I have a feeling stan loves him some JF

He's got to start winning...

But I agree with you. I believe for SK it's about building a program, not swapping out the HC.

I think SK hitched his wagon to Fisher for the long haul.

I don't think SK would admit to making a mistake by firing Fisher, even if everything goes south in year 4. I also don't think that any major program would role out the red carpet for a remarkably average, (or below average) head Coach who is looking retirement square in the eye. The man will be 58 years old next year. That is not exactly a good age to start over again in a totally foreign arena.

Baring a calamity, Fisher will be the Rams Coach going forward.

I saw that too and almost started the same thread. I don't see it happening personally. He is entrenched at the pro level and I don't see him wanting to have to recruit at the college level. He is a member of the NFL competition committee for crying out loud. If for some reason he decides to bounce...promote GW and keep rollin....

I wasn't a fan of the hire of Fisher. I can't seem to get over those scrimmages after we beat his team.

The discipline hasn't been there for three plus years. His record is average.

But I'm willing to see what he can do in year four (more years than most coaches get, BTW).

Regardless of any of that, I think Kroenke had a plan for L.A. when he hired Fisher. So, regardless of how it turns out this year, I think Fisher goes with Kroenke (if the move happens).

If, by chance, the Rams stay? All bets are off... I could see Kroenke bringing him to L.A. to coach the ???'s

In my mind, there's no reason the Rams should lose to the Browns Sunday at home. So, I'll start there. One game at a time.
