Officials on egg shells: First it was side judge Rob Vernatchi who suspended for a game. That sent a yellow caution flag up for NFL officials. As one official said to me, "The league doesn't suspend us, and the extra officials are for injury only."

Apparently things have changed.

Then back judge, Greg Wilson was reassigned -- and more worries. Now Pete Morelli and his crew have been reassigned.

Some officials feel betrayed by Dean Blandino, the NFL's vice president of officiating, and the league office. Some are frustrated enough to talk off the record about how they are being treated -- and they're challenging Blandino.

It's not a good situation and the officials feel like they are walking on eggshells.

Cut those egregiously bad calls down to one or two per week and the tension will dissipate in a hurry.

Walking on egg shells? Poor guys. We should all just be ok with the crappy job they are doing. Can't believe we actually expect them to get it right. The nerve.

Well, they got their hands full with the Seahawks game right now, the officiating has been absolutely piss-poor.

Am I the only one that thinks they made up a rule in the 2nd quarter of the Rams game? After a punt went into the end zone and was touched by the Cardinals, JJ picked it up and returned it to the 5. However, a hold was called on him during the return (bogus call but beside the point). So it should have brought the ball back from the 20 to the 10. However, the Cardinals decide to decline the penalty and take the result of the play. The result of the play was a touchback, but instead the Rams were given the ball on the 5. I call that revisionist history, and I can't imagine that was the right call. Nobody will care because: 1) it's the Rams 2) it only cost them 5 yards. But I've been a Rams (and NFL) fan for a long time and I don't recall ever seeing calls made incorrectly with such regularity. It is happening every game right now, many of which with implications that cost a team a chance at a game. It's a real problem.

How about the "Robinson would have been called for holding in the endzone but we won't throw the flag on Arizona" no call on that third down completion to keep the drive going.

Unfortunately it's part of the game guys, officials will make mistakes like anyone else would out there. If they really want to limit these mistakes, the hierarchy should change the rules. Maybe something along the lines of someone with replay access can guide these officials through difficult and/or mind boggling calls.

I won't be satisfied until they cane the refs who have been allowing the choke holds on The Mighty Quinn for years.

True, they should slim down the rule book. That being said, there is absolutely no excuse for some of the mistakes that are made week in and week out in the NFL, nor is there any excuse for the wildly inconsistent performance between one officiating crew and another. Couple that with a stunning lack of accountability and you have a recipe for officiating that is nowhere near what it could be. It needs to be fixed, and they need to be held accountable, with disciplinary action for missing obvious calls and making ones they shouldn't.

I don't have a problem with holding refs accountable for their job. Maybe they'll try a little harder to do their job right if they know there will be repercussions. There's always someone who wants to take your job. If that someone is better then he/she deserves your job more than you.

Eggshells??? You mean like the eggshells you have players walking on in every game because of your crappy calls?

Good I hope y'all are shocking in your boots because if I did my job as well as y'all do yours I'd have been fired along time ago and most Likley blackballed

Maybe Fisher will be off of the rules committee and the rules will start making sense from now on? I still don't know what a NFL catch is and can't find anyone that can explain it.:headexplosion:
