Les, LA gangs are known for their affinity for NFL garb, there are two that are the most predominate, Radiers (Criips) and Panthers, (Bloods). Most of the kids I see with Rams gear don't look like gang bangers.

You haven't been to the Inland Empire then... All Rams fans, all ex cons / current cons / and nerdy boys like me.

I was curious about the LA based fans and what they are hearing/seeing about the two teams.

Do you feel the LA market is dominated by either fan base? I would assume the Rams with the history, but with the crap product we have put out for the last decade I could see people jumping over to the chargers.

The Chargers are absolutely invisible. The Rams have a nice head start over them, and they absolutely benefit from their history here. They were smart to play that up when they came back -- "LA's original team, etc." -- Angelenos love that stuff. Vintage is in, baby.

That said I still see just about as much Raiders gear here as I do Rams gear.

This was what I was saying during the relocation debate. I'm not an AFC fan, and have never have been. I hate the Raiders, but they have a following since the only Super Bowl win was won by them in LA and they are gang supported (as far as gear etc...).

No one cares about the Chargers, unless they are already Charger fans, or are strictly bandwagon fans. Maybe that will be a little different now, but I don't see LA Raiders fans quitting their affiliation with the Las Vegas Raiders. Seriously, there probably can't be a much better weekend for adults than hitting casinos and watching an NFL game for a weekend experience. Raiders fans HATE the Chargers.

Rams fans from old are probably helping younger relatives to become new fans, but I don't know that for sure. After the first year in LA, the Chargers support will probably be lukewarm at best. IF the Rams put a winning product on the field this year, that timeframe will be even shorter.

Anecdotal evidence of course, but in my experience that's exactly what's happening. Almost every native Angeleno has a relative that is/was/is again a Rams fan.

*shrugs....I didn't like Kobe or Shaq at the time, and didn't like the way the game was being played..To each his own.

Oh but of course. Ain't judging!

I played in the post growing up so Shaq was my ultimate hero. In fact I still the use the "all Shaq could do was dunk" quote as a litmus test to see if the person I'm talking to knows anything about basketball.

I remained Faithful while Shaq was there, not so much when Kobe became the Face-of-the-Franchise!

This^ is one reason to dislike the Raiders!

I never considered them a L.A. Team, to me they where like "Poachers" when they where here, and I couldn't wait for them to go back to Oakland! ( Which I knew, one day, they would!)

I haven't lived in SoCal since 1988, but I have been there many times for work, which took me to Universal Studios 4 times a year....I was always torqued that there was a Dodgers shop and a Raiders shop. Nothing Rams (and this was years after the Raiders had left). I would drive my tour bus all around LA for several weeks every summer, and all I would see would be Raiders cr@p, and sometimes Cowboys trash..I may have seen MAYBE one Rams bumper sticker a year.

I sure hope to God that has changed since the move!
