This offseason is actually getting stupider and more bizarre.

San Fran host committee wants to lose the “L” from Super Bowl 50

The NFL traditionally identifies the Super Bowl with Roman numerals. The committee hosting the 50th edition of the game hopes to lose a one-letter designation that has become in recent years the universal designation for “loser.”

According to Alex Silverman of SportsBusiness Daily, the president of the San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl Host Committee said Friday at the ’14 Intersport Activation Summit that the group wants to see the procedure for naming Super Bowls change.

“I think we’re at a point now with Super Bowl 50, it being recognized as 50, the NFL doing what it’s doing around the celebration of 50, that it’s probably time to introduce the Arabic ’50′ as opposed to ‘L,’” committee CEO and president Keith Bruce said.

Bruce added that the committee has already given its opinion to the NFL. The NFL had nothing to say on the matter.

A change would be surprising. After enduring Super Bowl XXX, the NFL can easily handle Super Bowl L and, in nine years, Super Bowl LIX. Which is still a lot better than Super Bowl SUX.

Glad the NFL had no comment. This is just stupid. No point in changing it after 49 years.

I'm sorry... What?

Man, writers sure do go to weird places in the stretch of the offseason.

Also shouldn't the CEO of the Committee have better things to worry about then what immature people will think about the title of the Super Bowl?

What exactly is this guy doing anyways? Trying to distract from the fact that the city's team is imploding like a dying star?

I'm gonna need a refresher on Roman numerals. :bueller:

I=1
V=5
X=10
L=50
C=100
D=500
M=1000
...

A small numeral prior to another numeral means that many less than that numeral (so IV=4) a smaller or equal numeral after another numeral means add that to the previous numeral (so II=2, XX=20, XXVI=26) we're currently in the year MMXIV (1,000+1,000+10+5-1=2014)

So if you want to write 60, it's XXXXCCCCDM.

Seems inefficient.

They could use a "50". I'm not sure who really cares if it's Roman numerals or generic numbers.
