Hey guys, I just got home from an exceedingly boring continuing ed seminar and couldn't watch or listen to the game much at all (cursed hotel WiFi garbage.....).
At any rate when I checked the stats on NFL.com it looks like we got dominated in just about every area of the sport.
I mean we got hammered in rushing yards, total first downs, time of possession not to mention we lost the turnover and penalty battle.

My question is was it really as bad as the stat sheet seems to indicate?
What went wrong and what needs to be fixed going forward?

For the record I'm not going to let one game get me down. I'm still very optimistic that our Rams are headed in the right direction but of course I didn't see the game like ya'll did so fill me in please!!!!

If I had to sum it up, I'd say our linebacking needs some work.
Got gashed in the run game and murdered on short-intermediate passes.

I watched about a quarter...had to listen to the rest...Run game was just like the stat sheet says. Can we fix it? Time will tell. Looked like some players DON'T fit the scheme....we're a lil lite up the middle....and some can't/won't get off blocks...a lil slow in the back end too.

And we still had a chance to tie..pick up the defense...forced a throw in a small window...telegraphed all the way...a problem since camp....yeah...no one wants to tell the ugly truth...Skins are a potential playoff team...so it's a good measuring stick...we're not there yet. Man their o-line looked powerful...from the first quarter....the only D-linemen I saw that belonged were Brockers...and Westbrooks.

So what had happened was..

Redskins ran the ball down our throats.

We could not stop it.

Goff a little off target early and Norman punched the ball out of Gurleys grip.

Next thing you know it's 13-0

A lot of other stuff happened but eventually Goff with lots of protection and got his passes going especially to Gurley in the flat.

Redskins RB broke a rib and went out. We start slowing the run a little and find a way to get the ball back.

Goff driving the field with about 6 min left deep in skins territory but penalty after penalty for a Fg. Woods with a illegal pick and a unnecessary roughness by swinging a punch at a defender and then dropping a TD killed the drive.

Washington drives down for the winning drive and we just couldn't make stops. Trumaine cramps up and in comes Peterson. Cousins immediately throws his way for a 10 yard TD.

Goff stares down Kupp and wash LB picks it off to seal the win.

The NFL picked our game to test out their new "employing those possibly mentally challenged but definitely incompetent as refs for an NFL game" initiative. It went as expected.

Only two big problems really;
Our run defense sucked, particularly our linebackers.

Stupid inopportune penalties that gave me Jeff Fisher flashbacks.

Hey guys...

Dominated in every area?
Not at all.
We absolutely did get abused and embarrased by the run game in the first half. There was a stretch in the 1st half where they either ran or tossed to a RB on what must have been 10 times. Skins strategy was to play keep away from our pass rush all game long. It was very effective in the first half and not an issue in the second.

Barron was abused, Alexander got a little better as the game went on, but still not playing well.
Ogletree seemed off a little. Not sure what was up.

We could have and probably should have won this game today. If I had to make a list of the reasons we lost, this is how I would put it:

1 - Very smart and effective gameplan from Grudens staff, and very well executed by their O-line and backs.
The field was slop and the defense was over aggresive. They used both of those things against us and got out to a decent lead.

2 - Penalties, in different ways.
- Our Penalties: We committed some penalties in spots that were avoidable and they came at very critical times.
- Refs Penalties: Washington got away with some glaring holds that the Refs were apparently blind to. The best example is on the Redskins last drive. Donald explodes up the middle, beats his man and is on his way to a sack on 3rd down. An obvious, blatant hold around 99s collar keeps him from getting to Cousins, who finds a guy for the first.
The game was tied and if no hold occurs, its a sack 99% of the time. They would have punted on 4th and long and the Rams would have had a possesion with 5 or 6 minutes to play. At that time, momentum was in our favor and our offense very likely gets Zuerline in range for the lead.

3 - Our team is still learning about itself. The Offense and Defense are still brand new and many of our players are too. Mistakes will happen. To steal Coach McVays most favorite line: "What you feel good about" is that our mistakes are coachable and effective adjustments are made in game. We are not out matched or out classed.

I watched the game at a sports bar. No sound and not a perfect view, but that was my view on it.

It sucks that we lost, but it was a better game than you might think. Fun to watch and in many ways it was more enjoyable than some of our wins in recent years.
