A bit of Trivia for you; Merlin was Drafted Twice coming out of College! Yes Twice, once By the Denver Broncos in the old "AFL" Before the merger of the leagues! ( he was picked 2nd overall in the 1st round!) And the second Time he was Drafted By the L.A. Rams In the NFL ( 3rd overall in the 1st round!) He never played for the Broncos!!

He was Devastating!! To say the Least!

Just a Few stats I forgot to mention, Merlin:
* Played in 208 games over his career.
* Played in the pro-bowl every year of his career from 1962-1975, except his last year in 1976! ( Maybe because he was retiring!)
* He was a 5 time pro bowler.
* And he had "59" Career FR's ( Fumble Returns, for you un educated!)
And, I don't know if this has happen before or since, But his Brother Phil Played on the Rams at the same time as Merlin too.

I think the Only stats I haven't mentioned is that Merlin had 9 FR's in his career and 1 INT for 20 Yards and a TD! Here are a couple more photos for your enjoyment!!
Merlin%20Olsen3.jpg

Merlin was with-out-any-Doubt the BEST DT the Rams have ever had to date!! { OK! Donald has a chance to match him! But he has a way to go!!}

Olsen vs Viks.jpg

It has also been said of Olsen, when he had the Ball in his hands, he ran like a FB!

This "Quiet Man" was Devastating on the Field!

Can anyone come up with some actual Video on Merlin!?
I'm not any good at posting such things!!

My first ever favorite Ram. People here in San Diego wonder why I am a Rams fan, but they don't understand the kind of badasses the Rams had on the team when I first started watching the game. It left a impression on me that will last a lifetime.

Think you meant all-pro here.
He was also second team all-pro a few times as well.
Correct!(y) I meant to write 5 time All Pro!! He was a 14 time Pro Bowler, the only year he didn't make the Pro Bowl was 1976. Most likely because that was the year he Retired!:D

I watched "Father Murphy" relegiously years ago. I thought it was cool that a Rams player (one of the best), had his own prime time tv show. He sure was nice in the show. Quite the opposite of his on-field persona!
