Jeff Fisher’s son has left the Auburn program

There was a little more roster news to be shared on Saturday after Auburn’s first practice in pads. Safety Trent Fisher, the son of St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher, is no longer with the team. Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn confirmed Fisher left the team following the 2013 season, according to Al.com.
Fisher had walked on to the team in 2010 but sat out the Tigers’ BCS championship season with a redshirt. In 2011 he made the SEC Academic Honor Roll while playing special teams for the Tigers. That hard work helped earn a scholarship in 2012 and a spot at backup safety. That season brought one of the top highlights of Fisher’s career at Auburn with a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown against Alabama A&M, the seventh longest in school history. He once again made the SEC Honor Roll but in 2013 started to fall behind in the position battles.
The Burlsworth Trophy nominee (best player who was once a walk-on) has one final year of eligibility remaining and would be free to transfer to another FBS program and play this fall if he wanted. That is because he has graduated from Auburn and would be free to transfer anywhere he wishes instead of having to sit out a season under typical NCAA transfer rules. It is unknown at this time if Fisher is seeking a transfer or if football is now being put behind him.
