If we're picking a QB, why didn't we get rid of Bradford earlier? We could have cut him to sign better FAs or gotten something for him in a trade. Don't see a point to keeping him.
Because then you have no other options at QB. You HAVE to take one in the first round. As it stands right now, they don't have to do that; and subsequently, they can maintain their flexibility and draft negotiation powers. Now they can take one in the first round and keep Bradford (controversy or not), because they've already accounted for signing the draft picks. If they're sold on him, then great. No problem with Bradford winning the starting job and keeping it. But if Bradford isn't ready, reinjures his knee, or otherwise struggles, then they can execute plan B.

All of that, by the way, could very well be the reason Fisher and Snead keep saying that Bradford is the starter this year. Saying anything else, or even hinting at anything else, completely removes any leverage they have in the draft.
