It's about the possibility of Rams trading for Josh Gordon. This is getting more and more possibly a real thing.

Please bear with me for just a second, okay?

Could this be a smart risk/reward decision for the Rams? I'm trying to look at this as a business decision, without getting all emotional about it.

Let's take a look at some of the things that seem to be coming about.

Gordon is meeting with Goodell next week and is expected to be reinstated.
Browns (Hue Jackson) have said that they're moving on from Gordon, so we know he's done in Cleveland.
Gordon has said that he wants to move on from the Browns.
Gordon has been training in LA.
The trade cost could be as little as a 6th or even a 7th, practically a throw away pick.
Rams need a #1 WR type desperately. Haven't had one since Holt/Bruce.
Only Woods would be considered an experienced starting quality WR on our current roster. Goff/McVay could certainly benefit from another.
Gordon has reportedly pulled his act together in this last year and a half, based upon articles I've seen.

I know, I know...

There are reasons from Gordon's past that have caused him to even be considered possibly available, shortly. And I fully realize that the former Gordon doesn't exactly match McVay's "we, not me" philosophy. Emphasis Former Gordon.

But I'm just asking, does the low risk not get heavily outweighed by the high reward here? I would love to get such a favorable ratio at the poker table. Lol.

I definitely think it's worth considering and doing a deep dive into any available Gordon recent background info. At the very least.

Think about the alternatives.

Acquiring an elite WR weapon for a 6th or 7th for a team that definitely lacks one and also lacks a 1st rounder to get one this year. And for a pittance, mind you.

The worst case scenario? Gordon screws up again and we've wasted that late pick. Don't see how Gordon can screw up the chemistry being installed by this new coaching staff in conjunction with the leadership on this current roster.

Snead has made bold moves before. Is it time for yet another bold move to maybe jumpstart a 4-12 team coming off back to back NFL worst O's?

I'm leaning in favor of at least pursuing this opportunity. I guarantee you that some other team will take a chance on Gordon for the right price. Why not the Rams?

Thoughts?

Perfect stop-gap until we can draft and develop a WR with the elite skills that Gordon has, just for insurance in case he screws up.

I am finally on board with picking up Gordon for ONLY a 7th or 6th rounder. He isn't worth giving up more.

Big Gordon fan minus the off-field issues. If he's serious about his future and career, willing to sacrifice his habit and contribute his talent in helping the team fill a void, obviously the reward would be huge. With that low of an investment, I'd hope they'd do it. If he can't get it together this time around, he's probably done for good anyway..

Goff to Gordon would be awesome!

No question, just make it happen. Any trade must include a performance clause. If he is cut & brought in as a free agent, sign a heavy incentive laden contract. Either way, he will be very inexpensive. Some team is going to get a top talent for little cost, and this guy fills the #1 WR category we have so long lacked. You want to win ?, moves like this make that happen.

We have to give Goff every chance we can. Don't care for Gordon but we lack weapons and look at every other rookie QB and the weapons they got them. Prescott has Witten and Dez with Williams and little white guy. Look who the Eagles just got Wentz to add to a couple growing WR's. Bucs and Titans helped their QB's with reciever targets. Was bad enough we had coaching from the 70's thinking offensively in Goff's first year in the NFL. Or Middle school offense as Gurley called it. Grab the guy and hope he can get it together. :help::help::help:

Id take him in a heart beat. Very low risk EXTREMELY HIGH reword. I did hear apparently the other day he posted a video on twitter or something of him burning his browns jersey so I'm pretty sure hes not welcome there, but then you think MY GOD how stupid can this guy be after all the shit hes pulled and trying to get back in the NFL to post a video like that......... WTF

I think that without regard for logic and or common sense, some team will throw more dollars after him than would be prudent...

Whoever ends up with Gordon must have a strategy to help him.

I'm okay with the Rams trading for him, with a good plan in place to help him.

I know I read a debate about Gordon before but, it worth's revisiting.

The price may be higher than a 6th or 7th pick. I wonder how many other team boards are asking the same question as well as the other NFL team's management? Gordon just turned 26 today! A one year prove it deal makes little sense to me. The reason is if he is successful because the offers will come in spades after the season. You would have to give him a 3 year deal that is very incentivized with a possible 4th year Rams option. Both Gordon and the Rams will be in it to see him be successful. The Rams still would have to commit to the wide receiver position as if Gordon isn't there because of his history. (Thanks Jery) I don't think it's an easy proposition but, with what the Rams have or don't have at the wide receiver position makes it an avenue worth looking at and maybe taking.

What would be your highest pick to get Josh Gordon?

To me it seems likely that many teams might be willing to put up a 6th or 7th round pick for this guy. If you have decided the risk is worth the reward you might as well be willing to give something other teams aren't. Maybe a 4th or 5th. The fact is what is the percentage of 4th or 5th round picks having high impact on a team. There is no doubt he has 1st round talent. I would risk a mid round pick for the chance he could keep his shit together. If he doesn't move on. I don't think it is a set back that a team can't get over. It's one pick it ain't gold, but it could be.

I'm all for going after Gordon. When the guy is on the field his team is better. But I just don't see it happening.

Gordon basically has two years remaining on his Cleveland contract, this year and as an RFA in 2018. We would be taking over that contract if he's traded to us. All we'd need back for whatever we trade to Cleveland is a performance clause that states he remains clean and is available for every game while under contract. He'd get a first round tender as an RFA in 2018.

Would love to have him on a "show me" basis. One misstep and he's done. For a guy with a rap sheet like this?

6/7/13 Suspended 2 games by NFL
7/5/14 Arrested while driving impaired
8/27/14 Suspended for 1 year by NFL
9/19/14 Reduced to 10 games by NFL
12/27/14 Browns suspend him 1 game
2/3/15 Suspended 1 year by NFL
1/20/16 Request for reinstatement
March 2016 Reinstatement denied for failing another drug test
7/25/16 Reinstated by the NFL
9/29/16 Entered rehab

He hasn't played an NFL game since 2014, a year in which he played 5 games with 24 receptions for 303 yards, a 12.6 average with no TDs.

First two years? Fantastic. 30 GP; 137 rec.; 2451 yards; 17.9 avg; 14 TDs.

Man a team would be desperate to sign him let alone trade for him.

@Rams43 take a look at the new team slogan, unveiled when the team came in the first day. Then imagine the Rams adding a jackass like Gordon.

Now ask yourself if that really makes sense. Be honest.
