Have Tavon bulk up 5-8 pounds and convert to RB. I feel like they brought him back just to keep running lanes wide for Gurley. His hands are suspect at best, but he still averages 5 YPC no matter how you slice it. If he could just perfect a couple of option routes and the wheel route he'd be dangerous as a change of pace back IMO. Always have to respect his speed and he's decent PR depth if he can find his confidence.

Thinking TA is good for a trade for a lower first round or top 10 second round.
Bruh I’m about the biggest Tavon homer around here but IF we could trade Tavon we’d be lucky to get a 5th. And that Snead using his magical hair for one last fleece of 2018!!

I actually think Tavon will have more room to work with Cooks than he did with Sammy because I think safeties will be even further out of the box.

Couple that with all the things McVay can do with Gurley and...

I'm still saying that this offense could score 40 points a game with everyone in the playbook. I mean, when your X isn't in the playbook... enough that more than halfway into the season, he still wasn't sure where to line up... that's not optimal.

Yeah, we tried to re-sign him because of his deep speed and the HOPE that he'd get into the playbook.

NONE of that's an issue with Cooks.

He started in the NFL in Payton's WCO which is pretty similar to McVay's. And we KNOW Cooks is football smart because he balled out in the EP offense which is crazy hard for WRs due to all the options post-snap.

Honestly, as I apply my pattern skills to this... Cooks is the BEST fit in this scenario and might just be the best fit for this role IN THE ENTIRE NFL.

Better as a fit than Julio, OBJ, DeAndre Hopkins...

Woods is significantly faster than people thought (as that TD on the 3rd and 33 proved when he smoked the entire D, making them look like they were standing still) and an INCREDIBLE route runner.

Kupp is also faster than people thought AND he's probably the best pure route runner to come out of college in more than a few years.

Cooks is crazy fast AND is a complete route running WR who creates separation simply with the fear of his speed. He drove the CB corps of Jax crazy.

What does all of this mean for Tavon???

Well, we know who are top 3 WRs are. So, this should really help because I think if McVay gives Tavon a few more touches like on the jet sweep (and especially if he gets the right setup so Tavon gets an important 1st down or makes a long play to extend a drive), then the entire D is loose. They can't tighten on ANYONE.

Our toughest games are at home (Vikes, Eagles and KC in Mexico City...not all guys travel well and...the water...) and only the Saints on the road give me a hint of concern.

I think, honestly, 12-4 is our floor if we execute and stay healthy.

I think Tavon will play a small, but important role in that.

And as we saw when he had that 300+ yard game, if a team sleeps on him, he's to the house in a second.

I think they see Tavon as more of a HB at this point.

I think of Tavon like Johnny Rogers, the old Wingback for Nebraska in the ‘70’s

End around (jet sweep);catch a hitch, screen game...that’s Tavon”s game.

Happened to find a photo of Brandin Cooks trying to help Tavon with some receiving drills. Brandin seems to think TA’s hands are suspect, though.

I think the goal will be to make Tavon the back up RB.

I think I would still prefer to see Cooper get his snaps at the jet sweep.

I mean, Tavon's value even in the jet sweep has been nerfed at this point since Cooks can run them better than him already from outside or slot. Cooks can even play slot while Tavon have very limited usefulness there.

I could see McVay putting together some Cooks-Austin twin sets in the playbook, just a couple a game. Have them line up together, use their speed to run off db's, throw a TE in the mix, while sending out Gurley to catch a short pass in space, with lots of room to run. Their are now endless possibilities. I think some are underestimating just what an important acquisition Cooks was. Instant 1k+ yards receiver, not to mention his value as a decoy.

I love the creativity there but I don't see that really helping us, Austin can't catch, he can't run routes. Why not run our offense and just keep our best players on the field, 3 WR sets and Cooks runs everything Austin can plus can run routes down the field and catch the ball. Whenever you have Austin on the field, you limit your play calls due to his lack of ability.

Cooks is literally what Austin was hoped to become.

I think it means that Tavon can't be pretend any more -- like he's a pretend wide receiver and a pretend deep threat while Brandin Cooks really is a receiver and really is a deep threat.

Also remember how Tavon was pretend killed on the field? Cooks went out and showed what it's really like to go out there and get killed.
