We have some good talent on this team...we need somebody in charge that knows what to do with it.

He did well. For a crucial game in rain. But his span on NFL game play is due to the coaches.

Agreed. They hand-cuffed him with most of the play calls. Aside from the weather, and another poor O-Line performance, he played okay.

Not an easy first start for him given the heavy rain and the quality of the Miami defence.

He showed his quick release, ability to navigate the pocket, willingness to throw into tight windows, and prowess dealing with pressure. I liked what I saw. It was a solid yet unspectacular performance. No big mistakes or turnovers, which is great. It's something to build off of so it's hard to be displeased.

At the end of the day, however, the QB doesn't matter much when you're playing Fisherball. All you need is a competent game manager. Keenum proved he can't even be that. But as long as Fisher is here it's hard to justify giving up picks to draft a QB #1 overall...
This pretty much sums it up for me as well.

I saw a rookie QB play well in his first game
He should have been victorious
Play Calling seriously suspect
Missed field goal and prevent lost this game not Goff

Jared showed some athletic ability moving around the pocket and running. He missed some throws. Overall, I am encouraged about his future. On one play moved around to his left to avoid the rush then went back right into a defensive lineman. Yes, I laughed on that one. He is learning. It's one game in the rain and just the start with many more to follow.

He could not make a throw more than 7 yards down field. When he threw outside it was nowhere near a completion and didn't have any more zip than Keenum. When he was flushed he could not find a WR and could not be calm enough to throw it away. He certainly does not look like a plug and play guy. He might be decent in 3 or 4 years, maybe. Of course it was his first game but it looks like he is not close to the best player coming out of the 2016 draft, and maybe not the 3rd be QB. I can only pray that he gets better otherwise we're fucked for another decade.

Definition of average.
Inconsistent footwork. Inaccurate. Usually missing high which goes along with the foot work stuff. Too careful in approach.
But, he made it through the game. He seemed to have command of the offense and huddle. The bigger issue, as usual, was the O as a whole.
No attempts over 20 yards?
This tells me the coaches don't trust him. So then why start him if it is nothing but short timing routes?
Hard to get excited after today's game.
After I am sure being destroyed next week I thinks will start to settle in and get better. The next 6 games will be a better gauge.

He's certainly not better than Keenum at this point but he should get there, if he ever gets some coaching.
I believe it was a little too early for Goff and I also believe that Mr. Kroenke told Fisher to put the kid in, ready or not.

(He may have also asked Fisher why Goff ISN'T ready)

I wasn't impressed. I even saw reason for concern potentially. He looked scared in the pocket, rushed throws and didn't let routes develop. I thought the line gave him good protection especially considering the opposing defense. He definitely looked like a raw rookie.
On the plus side he showed good natural athletic ability to make plays on the run. Didn't force any terrible passed that I recall. He needs a lot t game experience and needs to get his confidence up. Needs to look tougher and less scared. Looked out of his league at times.
Too much? Lol
Just my op.

I also thought he played about equal to Keenum. The sole difference being that Goff has room to improve where Keenum kind of is what he is at this point. I think the lack of downtown's passing was due to the rain. It may also be a contributing factor to done of the poor passes. IDK.

He didn't do anything to win the game, but he didn't make any critical game losing mistakes. All in all, he played the game we were told Keenum would play this whole time. Now that they can deliver the same performance, it's right to go with the guy who can improve.

Really hard to tell anything from that game...

Rain,,, good opposing defesnse... conservative play calling...

Can't conclude much... he didn't make any bad mistakes.

Damn... this forum is a tough crowd when it comes to our rookie QB. To each their own.

I actually thought Goff looked really solid, especially considering his OC was of no favors. Also I don't get this notion that Goff looked scared. It appeared the opposite was the case, Goff was scrambling and making things happen in the pocket all game. Scared QBs don't scramble just so they can get hit harder. Scared QBs do the fold before the defense even gets their (Example: Bulger). And to those who say Keenum played better....I have no idea what you have been watching the last few weeks but it definitely was not Rams football.

Wasn't much downfield passing. Hopefully the Rams open it up more next game. From that aspect thier isn't much to draw a conclusion from.

Overall Goff did what he was asked to do in a Fisher offense.

He didn't lose the game but to be honest I felt like I was watching Sam Bradford's weaker armed, surfer dude twin.o_O
Sure doesn't look like he'll be a greatest of all time prospect any time soon!:dizzy:

We have a great one on our hands. I get why they were conservative with him this week. But they need to open it up and let him play ball. Let him make mistakes. We're not making the playoffs. You can just tell the guy has the goods in the pocket. Amazing feel for the pass rush and very elusive without having to run. If you can win in the pocket, you'll win as a NFL QB.

.

He played like a rookie playing his first game. What did you expect? I liked the way he moved inside the pocket.

I think Goff is an incredible talent. That being said I think it was foolish for the Rams to trade up to get him while keeping Fisher in place. He doesn't fit Fisher and most likely Goff will be spending his second offseason learning a totally new offense instead of building off his rookie year. I hope his growth isn't stunted like Bradford's was by this poorly run organization.

I think he did just fine as a rookie making his first start. I saw nothing that left me with any glaring concerns, and saw some great pocket presence. His stat line was nothing spectacular, but stats don't tell the whole story.

If there was anything I didn't like, it was stuff beyond his control - namely the horrible playcalling, which was way too conservative even for a rookie making his first start, and the general Fisher play not to lose attitude.

Losing today definitely bolstered my confidence that we will have a new head coach and offensive staff around here next year (although I'd be happy to keep Groh) ... once he gets some competent offensive coaches around him, I think he'll take off.

I think Keenum wins that game, by only a small margin. But I think playing Goff is the right choice. He shows promise, his ceiling is much better, and he needs the playing time.
