Hot 150: Gil Brandt's top-ranked prospects for 2017 NFL Draft

  • By Gil Brandt

  • Published: April 17, 2017
This is the 57th year I have produced rankings of NFL draft prospects. In the early years when I was with the Cowboys, we had only a fraction of the information we have today, with very few confirmed measurements and times for prospects.

But that has all changed. I can now look at my database and pull the confirmed short-shuttle or three-cone time of the 947th-ranked prospect instantaneously ... and in a matter of seconds have on my computer screen in front of me all the third-down-and-short run plays he was involved in at his Div. III school.

It makes an evaluator's job easier and harder at the same time. There's so much more to consider with the overload of information, but ultimately it's more accurate info, which should (in theory) make draft boards around the league more informed and precise.

With that said, here are my "Hot 150" prospects for the 2017 NFL Draft.

I like this, but I hope no one thinks these Players will be drafted Drafted in this order! There are too many different Team needs, and Team Drafting stiles for that to happen! It will very more and more as each round continues! JMHO

Lamp at 41?!! :rolleyes::rolleyes:

With that said, if he did indeed by some miracle fall to us in round 2 you bet we're running to the podium faster than Ross' fourty.

I agree, they would run to the podium for Lamp with our 2nd pick and moreover would likely run to the podium with any of the top O-Linemen dropping to us in the second. If Goff doesn't get solid protection in 2017 it won't matter who he's throwing to.

I see Brandt has Godwin at 51 and JuJu at 36; if he had done this ranking earlier in the draft season he would have had Godwin ranked much much lower, in the 80's or 90's no doubt. I also noticed in the CBS rankings they have moved Godwin into the 5th receiving spot-----the guy's rising rapidly because they more they see, the more they like. For me personally, I see Godwin as a better replacement for Britt than JuJu; Godwin, like Britt, will be a better deep threat than JuJu, and if JuJu is 36, then Godwin (who's likely to be available at 37) would be a great pick. I would love to get Lamp but, I doubt he'll be there and a "playmaker" would make a much bigger impact on our offense.

I was reading this last night with some surprise. Lamp and Kupp in reach.

Does this draft have more varied opinions than the others in recent memory?

Opposite of memory, senility.

Lamp at 41?!! :rolleyes::rolleyes:

With that said, if he did indeed by some miracle fall to us in round 2 you bet we're running to the podium faster than Ross' fourty.
True enough, BUT, the same thing can be said about ' TJ Watt' (@ #60! BS!) The Rams would run to the Stands for him too!!JMHO!

No doubt Gil definitely has a few players sliding that 99% of us don't agree with. Lamp & a few others seem like no freaking way dude. Overall though he's not completely out in left field. It wouldn't surprise me if there are some NFL boards similar to his top 100...

Anything after 100 I never take too serious but I keep these big boards for after draft comparisons like a lot of us draft fans do.

I could be wrong but I'm 75% believing the Rams won't select a WR at #37 so I hope some good WR's slide until #69 and the Rams pull the trigger on their highest rated WR left on the board.

I agree, they would run to the podium for Lamp with our 2nd pick and moreover would likely run to the podium with any of the top O-Linemen dropping to us in the second. If Goff doesn't get solid protection in 2017 it won't matter who he's throwing to.

I have to agree Dieter.... If the Rams found good fortune and were able to get Lamp at #37, it would be the happiest I have been for the drafting of an O-LINEMAN since Orlando Pace. :pillowfight:

yall do understand that Gil lost his marbles a few years ago?
Just using the laid out Marbles of Gil of his 150 I would roll with his board & select:
2(#37)-OL-Forrest Lamp
3(#69)-WR-Cooperr Kupp
4(#112)-TE-Jake Butt
4(#141)-WR-Mark Hollins
5(#149)-CB-Ahkello Witherpoon

While I don't like the lack of CB's & OLB'ers this would be the BPA as I see it.
