After the Rams lost their opportunity to win head coach Jeff Fisher's signature game at the Lions den, his Rams fell to their usual 3-3 record for the 4th time in five seasons under his watch. This team is now certainly entering their fate with this epic crossroads game in London.
A 3-4 record is now looming and unless these 2016 Rams can find a way to will a victory from the Giants on Sunday, their playoff dreams will head down a road of lost opportunities and doubt.
Even with a loss Sunday, it's still possible some melt downs can happen from the NFC teams Los Angeles will be competing with for the 5th and 6th wild card seeds. The problem with this is so many things will have to fall in their favor right down to the last week of the season.
Clearly this is not a road the Rams want to venture down. Too much is at risk for the Psych of the players and the momentum they can achieve going into their bye week. With a victory these Rams can right their ship and sail to safer waters with a great surge of confidence.
Following this epic crossroads match vs the New York Giants Sunday, many will point out that even with a loss and a 3-4 record, there are still many winnable games for them in their next 4 contests.
I see some truth to that thinking but ultimately, I believe this game will tell much of their seasons fate. Of course they could reel off 3 or 4 victory's vs Carolina, NYJ, Miami and New Orleans but in the NFL that is always easier said than done.
Should the Rams lose on Sunday and their record fall to 3-4 the dynamics of their season goes down a road of too many unknowns...
Let's take a look at the NFC teams the Rams will likely be fighting for the 5th & 6th playoff seeds.
Redskins 4-2- would still be 4-3 with a loss at Detroit on Sunday
Packers 4-2- next game at Atlanta
Lions 3-3- they own the head to head tiebreaker with the Rams & host the Redskins Sunday
Rams 3-3- would be 4-3 with a win Sunday and have the tiebreaker vs NYG
Giants 3-3- would be 4-3 and own the head to head tiebreaker if they beat the Rams Sunday
Eagles 3-2 would still be 3-3 with a loss vs Minnesota Sunday
Cardinals 2-3-could get hot if they beat Seattle Sunday
Of this current group of NFC teams none of them look any better than than the Rams on paper yet the Lions and the Giants with a win on Sunday would be 2 crucial daggers on the Los Angeles Rams record.
Unless one or both of Detroit and New York were to collapse, this contest against the Giants is not a game the Rams can afford to lose no matter matter how weak their NFC competitors appear to look.
Many would have to think that 2 of the above listed teams not named the Rams will likely get on a roll, which is why this game for the Rams in London is their crossroads game.
A win Sunday would be a Giant Victory and would give the Rams significant control of their own destiny. A loss to New York will take them down a long road of regrets that they likely won't be able to recover from.
