Study pegs Eagles as healthiest team last two years, Giants unhealthiest

Maybe the smoothies work. And maybe Tom Coughlin should try one.

The folks at Bleeding Green Nation have passed along a chart that suggests the Eagles are the healthiest team in the NFL over the last two seasons, while the Giants have been the most unhealthy over that span.

The chart is based on adjusted games lost, a formula created by FootballOutsiders.com that uses injury reports and players placed on injured reserve to quantify how available players are to their teams.

Eagles coach Chip Kelly has put plenty of emphasis on sports science, and using nutritional supplements for players to keep them at their best. And old school coach Coughlin has been criticized for not adopting new methods, which this study would seem to back up.

While there’s something to be said for doing everything possible to keep players well, football remains a collision sport and an amount of dumb luck can still make a big difference, particularly if that luck keeps a good quarterback on the field.

While it stands to reason that the best teams might be the healthiest, the next six teams on the list behind the Eagles are the Jets, Ravens, Bills, Browns, Vikings and Rams. And if you look at the Giants’ neighbors at the bottom of the chart, the Colts are 30th, and have managed to perform at a high level.

Obviously you’d rather be well than injured, but it’s unclear if all the shakes and Navy SEAL training the Eagles go through correlates to success on the field.

Note that AGL is a metric created by Football Outsiders which uses injury report and injured reserved data to determine how a team is impacted by injury.

I'm sure before Fisher showed up here our ranking was damn near the last 5 for at least 5 years 2007-2011

The trending upward improvement of the Rams team better luck on this subject from where it was over the last decade is not surprising when Fisher continues to go YOUNGER.

The last last two yrs of having a injured QB as we all know would have the biggest impact then add to that when your back get hurt for a long period of time .....well losses pile up.

The OL for many yrs now has been nothing short of a rehabbing medical unit or a retirement home where the well seasoned vets have been housed. These OL injuries have been damaging as well.......however Snead's 2015 draft will bring big change to this OL unit. The retirement home has been remodel to a youthful day care unit.

It will bear watching to see that if all this youth in this OL will finally rid itself of that very old injury monkey on its back.

These stats mean nothing IMHO because the Rams lost their starting QB two years in a row that trumps a safety, linebacker, tight end and a partridge in a pear tree.

Its said so often because its true - but losing your starting QB in this league for any real amount of time means your season is over.

And I guess why I'm somewhat bitter towards Bradford not totally his fault, but last season against the Browns was like a punch to the gut and I just felt at the time the Rams were jinxed.

Quick question, do the Packers make the playoffs with Aaron Rogers missing 16 games?

The Rams have been decimated by injuries. There are five teams AT MOST in the NFL right now that could succeed without having their starting QB for the last 1.5+ seasons. I give zero shits about losing a #3 WR or a #2 CB or your starting LB. They don't even approach the impact that a QB has.

The Rams have been decimated by injuries. Unfortunately, it was mainly injuries at one position.

The Colts are an outlier in so many rankings because, with the exception of Luck, they aren't very good and they're in such a weak division. Just illustrates how an elite QB can elevate an otherwise mediocre team.

And let's not forget Chris Long.

I'd like to see someone do a study based on injured impact players.

Not sure that list means a whole lot. 6 of the 7 healthiest teams didn't make the playoffs. Its more who gets hurt and for how long than anything else. Lose your starting QB and things get tough. Lose your LT if he's any good and things get tough.

What, 3 or 4 out of 48 and how many played an entire season with back up? Maybe one, your Rams? So which Ram QB was in Warners class the last two years?

Sorry, but that was a foolish statement, especially in an era when many teams can't even find starters let alone back ups. Maybe in the days wgen there were fewer teams, quality back ups were more common, but not today.

Again, a great organization like the Packers, with great talent, great coaching, maybe the best team in the nfc the last 5 years, how many games do they win woth a back up playing 16 games?

And this is not an excuse, just reality. I am not saying Fisher wins 12 games with a legit starter either, but it is hard to judge this teams progress or lack thereof because of the Bradford situation.

To me the number of injuries might not be as important as where the injuries are happening. If you have a couple of key offensive linemen out that can effect the whole unit. Which in turn can lead to an injured QB. The significance of losing a starting QB has already been noted here. Sometimes articles like this just don't paint the whole picture.

This article is another Chip Kelly cocksucking-fest in disguise.
