Is anybody here interested in this. I have been doing some extensive research into my family and have gotten as far back as 1726 when my 6th great grandfather came here from Ireland. He moved to Ireland from Kelso, Scotland and then took a 2 month boat trip here.

Wifey and I recently went to Vermont doing some research and found these in an old family cemetery Robert.jpg

2nd picture shows my 5th great grandfather, who died in 1800

My mother did a family tree/geneology tracing our/her family back to the 1500's ,took two trips to Norway to do it since she was first gen American both her parents were imigrants .
Shje did my dads family too ,I called her from a winery in Ste Genevieve county one Sunday (Crown Valley) had ridden my Harley there ,she asked where I was ,I told here she said "where you turned to go in there is a cemetery, you have a Great grandfather buried there" ,she visited upwards of 100 cemeteries got it done and gave me,my brother and my sisters each a leather bound copy of her work.
She was 91 when that phone call was placed, thanks Rhody,it's always great to think about what a remarkable lady me mum was.
Her family home is a bed and breakfast in Bayfield Wis. it's called Captain Moe's , he was a dredge boat captain on the "the big lake they call Gitche Gumee".
So in short yeah, some cool stuff

You using a paid service or just using public info?

did alot of it thru basic research...verified research with a 90 day free trial at ancestry.com, then went right back to doing more the hard way

This geneaology stuff is very interesting. [I have no idea how to spell geneaology. I'm getting a red squiggly under it.]

How are you researching it (minus the ancestry.com free trial)? Are you able to find stuff online? I've tried a few times over the years, but gave up.

there are alot of different websites you can o to to gather little tidbits of info.

Rootsweb
Find a Grave
family Archives

just to name a few

I knew part of my family history, which was published in a book about Pemberton, NJ years ago. Alot of places you can physically search thru thier vital records and find birth and death certificates of relatives, which often list parents, place and date of birth, next of kin etc . Just that info there can give you a whole bunch of paths to follow

I actually used to work as a probate genealogist going back a few years. Best job I've had if I'm honest, not that I ever researched my own family at all. We had all the records on microfiche, I dare say it is all electronic these days.

I was very lucky in that our original ancestor came to America in the late 1600s and planted where they landed. There is a town and church that bare his name in NJ. They maintained a genealogy up until my father's generation and my grand father saw to it that it was updated through the grand kids.

It's very interesting. They were French nobles with titles and a coat of arms going way way back. They were on the wrong side of the revolutionary war and were stripped of their land. Dumbass French. I mean, seriously?

There are often groups on Facebook and such that do nothing but document lineage so you might look there.

Any of you guys have to work through adoptions in your ancestry? My grandfather just passed and was adopted. He had no interest in really finding out who his birth parents were, but we're all kind of curious, this might be a good project for me to work on if at all possible.

Yea, I've done some research into it. My father's aunt did some pretty extensive research and had a big book on it. My mother's side is a lot easier to trace in terms of America because they haven't been here as long.
