Eye test only Keenum has had plenty of time to throw IMO. The line has been far superior pass blocking, but the run game not so much. There have been a couple plays this year where keenum should have thrown it away and not taken a sack and thats not on the line. Yes G-Rob has made mistakes, but he is definitely improving and those mistakes are becoming less frequent
Yea we rank well better at pass blocking this year.Run blocking another matter entirely.
I also think Gurley is not seeing things at times that he should.

Okay for what 2 years now I've been hoping GRob just needed time and I thought he finally got it. During the summer from what I heard and saw during training camp he looked good. I didn't agree with a lot of posters up to now but when I re-watched the games this past Sunday against the Cardinals I was really disappointed. Yes he is a beast on run blocking but he seems to be chasing little lbers or dbs'. On pass blocking he back pedals too much. He almost back pedals to QB. You back pedal to get a better angle at quick or fast edge rushers who are lined up wide but eventually you need to establish contact and he isn't doing that until much too late. When he has a DE lined up in front of him and they cut inside he is way too late and allows penetration. Is it coaching or just fear?
GRob isn't the only problem through. On Gurley runs it always seem like there's a huge push by the defense up the middle almost right to him not giving him much of a chance.
Okay it's nice in San Diego north county and I think the rum is setting in I hope I made some sense.
You make perfect sense.Good observations.Good post

Still a bit early for me to make a decision on the GRob gamble, different players mature at different times. We knew well in advance that he would be a project in pass pro, but it does feel unexpected to see his rush blocking take such a dip statistically. QB hurries & sacks continue from his side, same with the penalties, so one must ask when his potential will match his hype ? His footwork is off and he's getting beaten by athletic DE's, both inside and outside. Having Saffold next to him should have helped his pass protection somewhat, but it really hasn't, and Saffold's/Barnes own poor numbers with rush blocking just makes it all the more difficult for Gurley to run left. Havenstein is presently our only offensive lineman with a decent grade, and our overall offensive production is a reflection of these problems, not that receivers who drop balls occasionally or a sometimes inaccurate QB hasn't also hurt us at times. There was a lot of optimism beginning this season as Robinson looked to have really improved over those final 4-5 games of 2015, so expectations were high. He took it upon himself to train during the off-season with offensive line guru LaCharles Bentley, but we still aren't seeing real improvement on the field. Unless something changes rapidly, GRob won't be seeing a big 2018 pay raise by way of a 5'th year option, although, on the other hand, it's difficult to imagine Jeff Fisher giving up on his LT project anytime soon. jmo.

That's why I thought it would have been a great idea to hire on Bentley to serve as a mentor
same as Singletary is doing for Ogletree

I really pull for Greg because I can see his athletic gifts. The problem is he might be too far gone on relying on his power and speed instead of knowing proper technique and every possible assignment and adjustment. He ends up on the ground way too much IMO. He seems intent on lunging at guys trying to maul them instead of mirroring or guiding his defender out of the play. He's not picked up the little things that make pros good play to play IMO. I'm curious about Donnal, he seems like a better T than a G. Not sure he has the feet for LT, but he seemed much improved at RT this preseason to me. I'm no line guru though, good to me is not getting walked back to the QB every 3-5 plays.

I think a bit more creativity in the run game would aid all parties. A reverse or jet sweep, even a couple toss plays to Gurley would help keep defenders from crashing every play.

Keenum has been able to cash in on some of those defensive tendencies. Let's see them bounce Austin or Gurley outside and see if we can get a little bit of relief up front as a result.

Yea.What happen to the stuff they ran with Tavon and Gurley.Seems to me me they
could have elaborated on that instead abandoning it.

Here's what I don't get .How is having a honest discussion about this team considered
hating?Aint nobody mad, just stating the facts. This a weakness on our team.
Now if you want go have a conversation about Unicorns and Rainbows maybe your
on the wrong site. But this is a part of our team that has to improve and this place the last time I checked is a
Forum.A forum is a place where people gather to discuss topics.
Do yourself a favor and google what "hater" means and quit throwing it around like spare change,
just because the topic is not to your pleasing.

So true, some fans remind me of a time I went to a penn state game - penn state was awful the whole game and down by like 17 points with two minutes left - I started complaining about coaching, play calling, that they were definitely going to lose this game, etc, and a guy I had gone to the game with got so mad he started physically assaulting me.

Bitterness free.

Ever wonder what would happen if you moved a all pro quality guard to left tackle?

Not really.They just collect stats.If that's hating,you're misinformed.
Stats create misinformation all the time. You can use stats to create any picture you want.

See, I don't play FF, so I'm not concerned with what Gurley's YPC carry is. And I do understand that the offensive line hasn't been great. But Keenum was standing and Stanton was playing again. Stat that, I called getting after both Palmer and Stanton and it really wasn't much of a stretch for me to do so.

PFF hates on pretty much the whole team. So who cares?

I drink not the haterade.

Curious why you think PFF hates the Rams ?
They pay former college & pro coaches/scouts to evaluate game tape, grading each play/player in every game. They may not always be perfect, especially in opinion pieces, but they do offer an invaluable service which far more often than not matches grade to production.

Agree with this assessment of PFF. It's one of those deals where fans opinion's of PFF fluctuate with the ratings. Donald is rated the best player in the NFL by PFF. Truth be told I've seen more positive things said by PFF about Donald then I have the talking heads on ESPN and TV media. You rarely see any PFF bashing on those thread's...

PFF is not a perfect tool by any means, but overall IMO I think they do a pretty decent job. It's always fun checking their ratings out after games wether you agree with them or not.

In 26 starts for the Rams, Jason Smith gave up 8.5 sacks and committed two holding penalties.
In same amount of games Greg Robinson gave up 10 sacks committed 21 penalties (13 holds)
These stats do not include this year.So far this year after four games
he has allowed 2 sacks and flagged for 3 holding calls. His rating in P.F.F. is worse this year than at any point
of his career.2014: 41.3 .............2015: 35.9............2016: 35.4

Why do we continue to start one of the worst Olineman in the league?Would much rather start Saffold at LT and let Brown or who ever is the next best guard line up at left guard. Also think that with the amount of
actual practice allowed under CBA the Rams may have benefited from following their own lead.If you're
going to bring in Singletary to mentor Ogletree, why not bring in LeCharles Bentley to do the same for Robinson.
I'm sorry stats aren't everything but this is everything for a linemen especially when it comes to sacks given up and penalties. Robinson is horrendous this season and you can be a homer and look at his play through those magical colored homer glasses but it doesn't change the fact he's sucking.

We really need to do something before the season gets to far and get Saffold in at LT and get the best two Guards in and get them acclimated for the end of the season and potentially the playoffs because Robinson isn't doing it. I'm tired of seeing speed rushers come off the edge and he gets his ass handed to him or he holds on a positive play.

It's like if your driving down the road in the new Mercedes you just purchased and you get a flat tire: Do you to continue to drive down the road and pretend there isn't an issue and ignore the signs something is wrong or do you stop get out and fix the situation?

We have a flat tire..

The truth hurts sometimes.

Since when?

Their grades are terrible. They used to offer their metrics. But they've taken those away. Now, I don't see much use for PFF.

If the Rams are unhappy with Robinson, they should move him to OG this off-season and replace him. For now, he's the LT. Makes no sense to move Saffold. He wasn't an effective LT either. That makes us weaker at both LT and LG.

Not really.They just collect stats.If that's hating,you're misinformed.

PFF's grades aren't stat-collection. They're subjective ratings. And like anyone else, they tend to have their biases. Evan Mathis is the most obvious bias they have.

Since when?

At least since I joined a few years back.

Over the past nine years, Pro Football Focus’ unique signature stats and player grades have revolutionized the way fans and media have looked at player performance in the NFL.
But behind the scenes an even more profound revolution is taking place. Currently, more than half of the teams in the NFL, along with more than a dozen college football programs, are using our data and services to gain significant advantages in game preparation, opponent scouting, and personnel evaluation.

And now, we are making our data and grades even more accurate, with the help of the outstanding team at Pro Coach Network.

Pro Coach.Network is a group of current and former NFL coaches with hundreds of years of NFL experience. You can find their complete roster of coaches here :

They have chosen to partner with Pro Football Focus and bring their years of experience and expertise to improve an already excellent product. Now, every player grade produced by Pro Football Focus is reviewed and either confirmed or edited by a former NFL head coach.

Here is the complete list of coaches who will be working directly with the PFF grades:
  • Kevin Gilbride (28 years of NFL coaching experience)
  • Jack Bicknell Jr. (6 years)
  • Jim Anderson (29 years)
  • Terry Shea (8 years)
  • Ron Lynn (25 years)
  • Bill Bradley (8 years)
  • Ray Hamilton (30 years)
  • John Bunting (8 years)
  • Greg Robinson (13 years)
  • Peter Vaas (8 years experience NFL Europe, 28 years NCAA)
  • These game grades are what fuel our overall season grades that you can find available for purchase at ProFootballFocus.com/PlayerGrades

When ProCoach.Network COO Peter Vaas recently stopped by PFF’s Cincinnati, OH headquarters, he sat down with PFF owner and Sunday Night Football announcer Cris Collinsworth to discuss the relationship between the two companies.
He remained impressed with PFF’s football knowledge and skill at properly evaluating every player on every play. He also noted how PFF’s data can be a very helpful addition to an NFL evaluator’s tape study and gut feel for players. He finished by explaining why the PFF data and grades – which are reviewed by his team of experienced NFL coaches – are something that teams can’t afford to be without.

So you think Greg is done Tavian? That's essentially what you're advocating. That the experiment is over, he's done, a complete bust, give up and start over again drafting our third LT of the future again after Smith and him and hope we do a better job scouting a guy?

Don't you see any improvement? I do. I also think he's going to continue to improve and can become a serviceable tackle. He is serviceable as it is - just had a bad game.
