Former No. 1 overall pick Jake Long realized that coming back from a torn Achilles as he approaches his 32nd birthday was going to be a struggle.

So Monday, he decided to call it a career.

Long tweeted out his thanks to friends and family, but said he wouldn’t be trying to play again.

“As I continue with my recent rehab,” he wrote, “I realize that although my heart and mind still want to play, my body is telling me something completely different.”

Long signed with the Vikings last year when injuries hit, but was lost for the season in November.

The top pick in the 2008 NFL Draft by the Dolphins, Long also played for the Rams and Falcons. He was a perennial Pro Bowler during his days with the Dolphins, but injuries derailed his career.

Good call, his body just isn't holding up. Great run blocker in his prime, and IMO the MVP of the 2013 Ram offense before he went down.

He was a great LT before the injuries piled up. His level of play from 2008-2011 was outstanding. I wish him a happy retirement!

Best wishes to him! he's a class act! I thought he should have retired after he left the Rams!

Was on course to the HOF before the injuries started. A big shame. Was on Joe Thomas level. Best of luck to him in his future endeavors. Hate when a elite talent is destroyed by injuries. Seems like a great guy too. Glad he called it quits before got hurt to much.

I wish him well, but will always hold a grudge, it's because of Jake Long's missed block that injured Bradford again in preseason (Against the Browns)...Sorry he hurt the Rams more than he helped them.

You have no life?

I've been tracking former LA Rams guest star appearences in 20th Century television.

Here is Vince Ferragamo in a guest starring role in the movie "Police Woman Centerfold"

It's about a female cop who loses her job after posing nude. Here is Vince meeting the female centerfold cop

Here is Vince with that million dollar smile

And bere is the f'd up cover to the movie

Then we got Christian Slater from Gleaming the Cube. He's not a player or a fan but his character "Brian Kelly" dons the LA Rams colors in order to blow up then evil factory - which is f'ing cool

The messed up thing is as soon as he blows shit up he tosses the hat. You need to skate out of there with Ram's gear for full victory - whats up? Don't toss the hat away

Here is Pat Haden with a guest appearance on Love Boat. He gives Vicky all sort of feelings she has never felt before.

Here she is meeting her man and the said autograph

Then there is Ray Malavasi and Frank Corral and Jim Youngblood on an episode of Fantasy Island

They try and accomodate this asshole's fantasy witha tryout for the teams starting QB when he is dressed in Charger colors. F THAT

Unfortunately due to his Charger gear his wife still hates him
