Ex-Rams Defensive Tackle Kendall Langford to Visit Colts

According to Nick Wagoner of ESPN, St. Louis Rams free agent defensive tackle Kendall Langford is set to visit the Indianapolis Colts this week:

Nick Wagoner @nwagoner
Former Rams DT Kendall Langford visiting New Orleans today, tomorrow. His tour continues after with visit to Indy. Already been to DET, NYJ.

The 6’6″, 313 pound Langford was recently released by the St. Louis Rams in early March for cap space reasons after losing his starting spot to standout rookie Aaron Donald. He still appeared in all 16 games for the Rams this past season, making 4 starts, and recorded 25 tackles and a sack. Originally a 3rd round pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2008 out of Hampton, Langford has been a solid defensive lineman in his 7-year career, as he has 90 career starts.

Still, Lanford doesn’t project to be anymore than a rotational defensive lineman for the Colts and potential solid spot-starter, likely in a Ricky Jean-Francois-like role at best.

According to ProFootballFocus (subscription), his +0.4 overall grade ranked him as the 45th best defensive tackle overall. However, the Colts are in real need of some defensive line depth with Cory Redding mulling retirement, and Arthur Jones as the only proven defensive end on the roster.

Langford may not be the flashiest candidate, but he has been a productive starter in the past and would add some much needed defensive line depth to the Colts. Earlier we noted that the Colts have serious interest in the Detroit Lions Nick Fairley, and while Langford isn’t quite the same type of talent, he could be an under the radar signing that could boost the team’s defensive line depth.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Colts are serious in giving Langford a contract offer or whether they’re simply leaving no stone unturned in possibly strengthening their defensive line.

Kendall Langford - DL - Free Agent

The Broncos have arranged a visit with free agent DL Kendall Langford.
Langford would play five-technique end in new Broncos DC Wade Phillips' 3-4 after spending the last three seasons as a 4-3 tackle in St. Louis. 29-year-old Langford began his career as a 3-4 defensive end with the Dolphins.
