Question for the Clowney guys....where do you put him? Do you draft him and have him as a rotational guy? Do you think they would pull Quinn out of the game for anything other than a two play breather after the season he is having? Do you change him from his natural position and move him inside? Long?

I really wouldn't want to draft a D-Lineman and move him out of his natural position...we tried that with Carrikar (sp?) and Long (at first)...

It's proven to flat out not work in St. Louis.

Draft him, work with him and when he's ready, get him on the field at LDE. Quinn is at RDE. When he's ready to start over Long, you put him in. Until then, you rotate with him, Sims and Hayes. Probably get him in at DT on some passing downs too.

In 2014, Clowney would replace Eugene Sims spot in the rotation playing at both LDE, RDE, and DT in that 4 DE lineup used in obvious passing situations. In 2015, he becomes the starting LDE as Chris Long is dealt (unless he takes a paycut).

Really liking this Greg Robinson guy right now. Basically D.J. Fluker with quick feet. Ridiculously strong and powerful and surprisingly athletic. He's the offensive lineman I would spend a top 5 pick on, personally, not Jake Matthews.

I'm with Jrry. I don't necessarily want us to draft Clowney, but it is a real possibility, and I would not be mad. I think a comparison a lot of ppl are not making, but makes sense to me, is Mario Williams when he was with the Texans in 4-3 defense, before he declined.

Oh also guys, don't get too excited about Sammy Watkins production in the upcoming bowl game. Ohio State's defense, especially pass defense, is absolutely terrible. I predict Watkins has 200 yds receiving and a cpl TDs. My Buckeyes are just the worst on defense this year. Hope Urban hires someone to turn it around...

I watched Clowney often down here in SEC land. Jadeveon has a very large frame & does play the run very good for a college DE. I do not see where plays the game anything close to what Robert Quinn did at all. Jadeveon looks to me that he could play with more size. I think he will grow close to JJ Watt size. IMO Jadeveon would be a perfect RDT/DE in a 34 defense IMO but just as good in the LDT/DE too in a 34 as I posted last week. Would the Texans pass on another JJ Watts for the top 2014 QB? or would they spend some cap $$ after some of the premium UFA QB's like jay Cutler, Vick or Josh McCown?

The Rams selecting Jadeveon with the 2nd overall 2014 draft pick would be the ultimate BPA IMO & like jrry32 said he would put our starting LDE Chris Long who will make nearly 15 million in 2014 on the sidel line by mid season IMO. Fisher already have signed up just recently signed up two other DE's in Hayes & Sims both are very good. Rams current master roster ...the strongest position on this team is DE!

Just thinking out of the box here but Fisher loves tall DT's. Let me lead in here with ....His first Ram draft pick was the 6-5 1/2 320 pound DT. Fisher then signed up 6-6 290 pound Kendall Landford a ex 34 LDE/DT. Fisher has beefed up Kendall now to where he is between 310-315 & playing better as the season goes on. Then signed up an unknown college 34 DT 6-7 265 pound Conrath who he stowed away on the master roster in 2012 all season & beefed him up to where he is over 290 pounds & gaining now to where the much shorter 6-2 Cudjo has been inactive for a month. If Snead, Fisher & Mike Waufle possibly see Jadeveon as a player who could grow his 6-6 275 frame into & play Landford's LDT position on mainly passing down & Chris Long LDE position on running downs much like the position that like Williams Hayes plays so well now.

With all of that posted above, I would hope that Snead would follow his past draft program & deal this possible new #2 selection again. I would hope that he could get a close repeat bounty to what Snead got in 2012 for the RG3 trade. It sure looks like a great deal now does it not? Snead traded then... the Rams 2012/1st rd. #2 pick for 4 draft picks[ 2012-1st rd.#6th & 2nd rd.#50, 2013-1st rd.#22nd & 2014-1st rd #2 Pick].

What did Snead basically get for giving Washington RG3 = looks like 3 starters on the Ram defense & one promising receiver. DT Brockers, CB Jenkins, OLB Ogletree & WR Stedman Bailey with one more pick remaining.

BonifayRam I believe the tall DT thing has more to do with the DLine coach than Fisher.

Minus another windfall of a trade, methinks the Rams would be better off selecting Clowney if he is available and moving Chris Long in 2015. Get you extra draft pick or picks there.

Not bad Memphis ...always nice to see your posts when you visit us....you are a purist BPA poster! You & I go back many years debating that...I think I have lost them all... but with enjoyment.

Interesting thought Memphis on the extra draft picks coming from Chris Long trade....would any-other NFL team desire that monster of a cap busting contact that would come with Chris long??? CL has been MIA in many games this season. He has been handled @ times by many average ORT's. Not so sure CL would bring a bounty of picks with that Contract..I will have to look at it. Snead & Fisher would have to think that the drafting of Jadeveon would bring great improvement @ the LDE post. I think it would & I would find it very hard to pass on Jadeveon if he was there no matter how thick & skilled we are @ DE.

I know that Roby has had a rough year but if I were them, I'd shadow Watkins with Roby and have Roby press him pretty much all game.

That would definately answer questions about Roby that even OSU fans have. We've played mostly a crap zone (like the Rams) all year, and since last year Roby is one of the 'top tier CBs in the country.' I've never bought the hype, and HOPE TO GOD the Rams do not draft him. I just have a feeling we might target him though = mistake if we draft him. He doesn't seem to be good in zone at all, and we haven't seen him play man much. He reminds me of Janoris a little as far as size and speed/leg tackling ability. Anyway I hope we do see Roby singled out in man/press on Watkins even if we get torched, for the sake of the Rams seeing it and not drafting him lol. But yeah shadowing Watkins, just keeping an eye on him in general would be a good idea for OSU. Will be interesting to see Watkins as I've not watched a lot of him, just seen highlights on Saturdays.

What do you guys think about the BC running back at some point? Haven't really paid attention to where he will fall in the draft, but I think he could be a very good player for whoever gets him. Also realize we have Stacy but adding Andre Williams could give us a really good one-two punch. Also would love the idea of drafting Marquise Lee instead of HaHa Dix in the first. I haven't really paid close attention to the draft class this year so I don't know who the really good safeties are but they got TJ McDonald in the 3rd and he has been a great player. Think they could have similar success with another later safety pick.

Absent a trade down, if he is there, I don't see how the Rams pass on Clowney. I get that DE is not our top need, but Snead seems smart enough to not pass on a rare talent just because it isn't his top need at the time. Take a very good D Line and turn it into a legendary one. The Rams aren't going to be near the tipy top of the draft again for a very long time (knock knock) - they need to make this one count.

As you guys know at this point in the year, jrry32 mocks are pretty much a weekly thing.

Anyways, here's a few of the moves I'd make:
Fire
DC Tim Walton

Hire
DC Jim Schwartz

Analysis: With the Lions falling the way they have, Schwartz might be on his way out. If he is, I think he's a logical fit here to step in for Walton.

Re-sign
Rodger Saffold OT/OG - $25 million over 5 years with escalators based on health, the max value is $35 million...$10 million is guaranteed($5 mil first year cap hit)
Tim Barnes C

Release
Cortland Finnegan CB - $7 million in cap relief
Harvey Dahl OG - $4 million in cap relief
Scott Wells C - $4.5 million in cap relief

Free Agency
Anquan Boldin WR - $11 million over 2 years with $6 million guaranteed($5 million first year cap hit)

Analysis: Some may not like this because of Boldin's age but I think that's what makes it a good move. Yes, he could decline but the biggest reason for signing him is the veteran leadership he provides. We sorely need it on our WR corp. This could be the guy that helps Quick turn his career around because if there's any WR that can teach you about physicality, body positioning and attacking the football...it's Anquan Boldin. Plus, he offers a pair of very reliable hands and that's something I'm sure that Sam would love to have.

Trade
Rams trade:
Pick #2

Browns trade:
Pick #5
Pick #25

Rams trade:
Pick #5

Dolphins trade:
Pick #23
Pick #55
2015 1st

Analysis: I know that's a lot to process here guys but this is my logic. Jeff Ireland is a win now type of guy and is very aggressive. Miami is a borderline playoff team this year and they're going to be willing to take a big risk to go after the guy they want. Miami's OC and QB are both from Texas A&M. The first 4 picks shake out this way...Houston takes Teddy, Cleveland trades up for Bortles or Carr, Jaguars take Barr(surprising but he's the better scheme fit) and the Raiders take Clowney. This leaves Jake Matthews at #5 for the Dolphins to trade up in front of Atlanta for. I know some will say to take Matthews but two first round picks and a 2nd is too much for me to pass up.

NFL Draft
Round 1 Pick #14 - Greg Robinson OT Auburn
Round 1 Pick #23 - Jason Verrett CB TCU
Round 1 Pick #25 - Aaron Donald DT Pittsburgh
Round 2 Pick #14 - LaMarcus Joyner FS Florida State
Round 2 Pick #23 - Yawin Smallwood SLB Connecticut
Round 3 Pick #14 - Gabe Jackson OG Mississippi State
Round 4 Pick #14 - David Fales QB San Jose State
Round 5 Pick #14 - Victor Hampton CB South Carolina
Round 6 Pick #14 - Denicos Allen OLB Michigan State
Round 7 Pick #14 - Spencer Long OG Nebraska
UDFA Choice - D.J. Adams HB Portland State (Had 11 TDs as a freshman at Maryland...new Maryland HC hated him so he transferred...put up 1600 yards and 19 TDs this year)

Projected Starters
QB: Sam Bradford
HB: Zac Stacy
FB: Cory Harkey
XWR: Anquan Boldin
ZWR: Stedman Bailey
SLWR: Tavon Austin
TE: Jared Cook
LT: Jake Long
LG: Gabe Jackson
C: Tim Barnes vs. Barrett Jones
RG: Rodger Saffold
RT: Greg Robinson

LDE: Chris Long
LDT: Aaron Donald
RDT: Michael Brockers
RDE: Robert Quinn
WLB: Alec Ogletree
MLB: James Laurinaitis
SLB: Yawin Smallwood
RCB: Janoris Jenkins
LCB: Trumaine Johnson
SLCB: Jason Verrett
FS: LaMarcus Joyner
SS: T.J. McDonald

K: Greg Zuerlein
P: Johnny Hekker

Thoughts? If you have any questions about the prospects, I'd be happy to answer those as well or provide analysis.

Absolutely love it jrry! Make it happen. I like that you have addressed our most glaring needs with OL help (really love the re-signing of Saffold) and added talent on the DL and backfield as well. I think these moves makes our D stout and agree that Fales in round 4 is about the right spot for a QB.

Love the trades Jrry. like the Boldin pickup as well, as he is sure handed, a vet who could help our young wr's, still had gas in the tank, and wouldn't be overly expensive.

Good solid draft as well, few new comers not mentioned anywhere else, i like that.

I love the Boldin move. I think we desperately need vet leadership for our young WRs, I think this is something we've been lacking for years. To me this is the best move of the entire offseason if we would do it, honestly.

What about this Joyner kid? He is listed as 5'8'' and I know you like him a lot, but I feel like we need a bigger more physical presence in our secondary. And you have him at FS but he's a CB, right? I was a huge advocate of doing this exact move last year with Mathieu and was laughed at for the idea on realramsfans...then the Cards did exactly that and it is working out very well for them. Guess I was right there. Perhaps you are right on par with that idea here, and if so it would be awesome.

Even the coach has identified our secondary as an issue. So if Dennard runs a good 40 (under 4.5) and he is there at pick 5, do you see us passing? I personally do not...

OH and I don't like the Schwartz hire. Didn't Walton come from Detroit? We should probably avoid anything related to that defense...
